So after a lot of confusion, I'm finally coming home.

Yesterday=saturday, I went to the airport with my big bags and met Amy at the Rosslyn station. We went to the Airport, and said good bye:( Then I got excited to come home, and I went through security and she left. Not, however before she bought some delicious Ghirardelli chocolate. She had some eggnog truffle, and I had a candy cane one. After that, I saw my flight was delayed, then canceled, because the weather was bad in Minneapolis. SO bad I found out today that the football stadium broke somehow and the game was postponed. Anyway, So Amy had already left, and I had to rebook my tickets. The next flight that was the same as the one I had would be the following day really late, so I opted for a different one leaving at 6 in the morning that would go to Detroit, then Salt Lake City, then Butte. I tried that one instead. So I had to get up unreasonable early today, because I was supposed to leave 2 hours before my flight... (Actually if you are leaving at 6 in the morning, probably 1:15 is enough. Sleep in!) So anyway, I took a taxi for the first time and they said they would call when they got there, and I asked for 3:30, so I could be to the airport at 4, but that was a little early. He showed up at 3:15. I was planning to wake up at 2:50 to take a shower and repack everything, but some kids got back at 1, and were a little noisy, so I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep. I then just lied there for a long time and finally gave up and took a shower at 2:30. I went to bed at like 10 the night before, because I couldn't sleep so early...Anyway, it wasn't enough sleep as I had imagined it to be.

The taxi was interesting as I was saying before. First, he spoke with some heavy accent type thing whether it was Indian, or the southern black style, I just couldn't understand him as hard as I tried, and he was asking how to get to the door, and I didn't know the names of the streets, so It was difficult. Also, as I was leaving my dorm, it was pouring, so I got a bit wet.

We finally got to the airport, and I went in and had to wait before I could check in, because it was too early. Then I got on my plane, and we took off, and I couldn't see anything because of the clouds, so that was not so fun either. It was a fairly short ride to Detroit, then I hurried over to my next gate.

We loaded the plane in Detroit, and then sat there for quite a while, since it was completely full. There were too many bags, so they had to take some of them to put under the plane. While they were fiddling with our baggage, we were just sitting there on the plane and waiting! And then we waited some more. Finally, the plane began to move and we went to the De-Icing area. We had to wait a long time for one of the units to become available, and then we pulled up there and they sprayed hot water all on the wings... Oh yeah, it was snowing, thats why we went to the de-icing place. So they also sprayed this green stuff on the wings... I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it looked almost like some type of a salt mixture to keep them from Icing as we went to the right place to take off. Anyway, we then had to ride in the plane for a long time over to the right runway, because they switched them on us. By the time we finally took off, we were 1.5 hours behind schedule. I knew that we wouldn't make the connection in Sat Lake City:( We had a little hope, because Erica saw somewhere that the ETA was 11:04, but that was wrong. We got there at 11:22, and my other flight left at 11:15. So, I had some more fun messing with tickets. I tried to get one to Bozeman so that I could go to the concert with my family, but as I was on Stand by, I didn't get a spot. I have one more shot at a Bozeman Flight, but if I miss that one at 7:55, since I am also on stand by on that flight, I have a ticket for the Butte one at 9:36.

So basically, I have been waiting around the airport all day and it hasn't been too fun, though they do have lots of cool stores here. I talked to the Cross pen salesman and used the same type of pen that Bush and Obama both use. I also used a platinum plated one which costs $250. They were really sweet! I have a really nice Cross mechanical pencil, so it was fun to see all the other types too. They even have leather ones. I also looked at this cool electronic/novelty shop. They had buckyballs, and also something called a boogie board. It is an electronic note taker thing. It acts like a piece of paper, because you can write on it with a stylus. It is an LCD screen, I think, and then after you write, you just click a button to erase it. IT was a little expensive, but I would check it out on google or something. The brand is improv electronics. Anyway, I have to see about my last attempt at stand-by, so this is probably the last blog for a while. I may post my grades too, in case anyone is interested. I got a 92 on my final Sociology project though:) :) That is my highest grade on anything in that class and it counts for 30%. TTYL

Coming Home at last:)

So this week has been busy with studying and taking exams, but I have had a little time to do other things too.

On Wednesday, I went down to Georgetown and met Amy at the Safeway, because she had to bring some appetizers to a "Horkfestival" which was some induction dinner for the Mask and Bauble Drama society. We bought some croissants and little smokies. After While walking back, a previous day We stopped at Johnny Rockets and got a Peanut butter and chocolate milk shake:) It was delicious, and we even got waited on by Sultan Kahn or something important sounding like that. He was the manager too:)

I went to the Chi Alpha Christmas party at Georgetown and had a good time there. We played some games. The first was that each person had to get in groups and make a song somewhat about Georgetown, using 5 phrases (GUGS, Hoya, Red Square, GERMS, and one more that I can't remember) The all caps ones are acronyms for Georgetown University Grilling Society and Georgetown Emergency Response Medical System. Anyway, our group did it to Deck the Halls. It was pretty fun, and Amy even came up with something to rhyme with Hoya, DeGioia, the schools President. And the other phrase was The Provost. After that, we played the white elephant game. It was a different version, but each time someone went in the circle, they would just take a gift rather than trade, if they chose someone else's. Then that person who was left without one would get one from the middle and unwrap it, or steal someone elses. It was pretty fun:) Carlson, the kid from Cameroon, got my straw set, which he thought was pretty lame it seemed, but I really thought they were pretty cool.

So, anyway, some more final news. I took all of them by the time I'm writing this. The Physics, and Calculus ones seemed really easy, and the Music and Global Majority ones were alright. I got an A, barely on my Global Majority one, only because of 2 extra points he gave people that were on the border. I would have had an A- in the class, but squeaked by with an A. I also got back my Calculus one, or the grade rather. I got a 98! That was the highest in the class... Whoopah! I think I was the first or second highest for overall grades in there. I have to wait and see what I get on the rest of them. I for sure won't have an A in Sociology, but hopefully nothing lower than a B. I'm fairly sure I got an A in Physics too:) So, I'm very tired and need to get some sleep before my trip tomorrow! Goodnight all! See some of you soon:)

School's Out for Christmas Break!!!

Well, Sort of... I finished all of my classes for this fall semester, but not have to take the final tests in 4 classes and write a paper in another. This week itself has been fairly average and I went to classes and did the usual things, but lately I have been eating more. I am on the 150 meal plan per semester and I got a little behind, thinking that wasn't enough, so I had quite a few meals left and needed to eat them by the end of this semester, other wise they would go to waste.

On Friday, I finished up my classes and then hurried down to Georgetown. I talked to my cousin Josiah on the way, and it was good to hear from him. There was a big Christmas tree lighting in Dahlgran Square. By the time I got there, that part was over, but there were some A Capella groups singing. After that, about 6, the Mask and Bauble drama society did The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Amy was Lady # 2, and she did a great job! The microphone's weren't working very well, so she had to speak loud, but I could still hear her. I have her parts recorded on my little video camera in case anyone wants to watch:) After all the homework was done, I just kept making study guides and will now have to Study and Study all weekend as I have been, and then I'll have to Study some more! Well, there you have it. I have to study, take some tests, then I can come home:) Hooray!

The last regular Monday!!! (of the fall 2010 semester)

Today was a fairly average day. I got up, did my laundry, studied, went to class, and then studied some more. The most important thing that I will do today is register for classes, which is the reason for this blog, because I'm procrastinating studying my boring vocabulary for Sociology and am instead typing here. The classes which I'm going to register for are University Physics 2 (PHYS 210), Calculus 2 (MATH 222), Renaissance and the Revolution in Europe (HIST 110), The Global Perspective or something like that, an international Business course (IBUS 200), and 2 music classes. Right now, I will register for 2 Calc 2 classes, because the one I want is full, so I will waitlist that one and will also add the other, in case I can't get into the preferred one. I will also sign up for Choir and the Winds Ensemble, just in case I'm not able to bring my instrument. Anyway, there hasn't been much going on besides studying, eating, and worrying about my classes and homework. I also met with my group for a project for Understanding Music in the Library at 9:30. Well, Time to get ready for bed and then time to register.

Goodnight!

Facial Hair

Posted by Picasa
Anyway, I shaved before Thanksgiving, but I didn't really have many noticeable hairs. They were getting decently long, but they were all blond, so you couldn't see them very well. Those are all the pictures I have though, so if you want to attempt to see me with some facial hair, there ya go.

Thanksgiving with the Risers

On Thursday, we got up whenever. I think it happened to be around 8:30 or 9:00. We ate breakfast with everyone and had a nice home made meal. We had Grits, eggs, bacon, toast, pumpkin bread, and some juices. After breakfast, we, well not me so much, but Mary and Moira, made some pies and butter-horn rolls. We hung out for the rest of the morning and afternoon and Amy and I read some of the homework we had brought. We then played Risk for a while, but Amy and I got taken out rather quickly, so we went back to reading. Before the dinner, George's brother John and his family came over. We played football with his little boys, George and Gordon. Amy, George, George, John, John, Gordon, and I played. I ran a lot faster there than I had in a while, and my lungs started hurting pretty badly... After that, we went and shot the gun. It is a .303 British and has supposedly killed more people than any other make of gun. It was the gun used by the British in both world wars and also in many of their colonial conquests. It was a neat old gun, and had a kick similar to the .243 I thought. We shot at some cans and a trash barrel. After that, we came back to the house for dinner. It was really good and had all of the normal thanksgiving things, except green bean casserole. Something that I thought was interesting was the fact that rice was one of their usual things to eat. I could see why too, because they potatoes weren't too amazing. They weren't bad, but they made them by hand, so they weren't creamed to a pulp. The gravy was really good though. We ate by candle light only, and it was kinda dark. This house in the evenings is pretty dark, because they don't have many bright lights. It makes it feel quite homely, but its not too beneficial for reading. It also was nice to have the fire going most evenings. They also have a dog named Rebel, and with all the combination of smells and the fact that it is an oldish farmhouse, the smell and feel reminds me a lot of my grandparents house in Michigan. At dinner, George (old), distracted his brother and poured some leftover oyster juice in his wine glass. Then Moira told him. When we were eating the pie though at the halftime of our Taboo playing, John (old), George (older)'s brother, put salt and pepper on George (old)'s pie as he was getting some wood. He actually took a big bite though and everyone was laughing at him. They are a pretty funny group. Anyway, we sat around for quite a while and people took turns telling jokes. It was a great time.

On Friday, we got up and had some cereal for breakfast. We did some homework and then had hot turkey sandwiches for lunch. They were really good! After that, we sat around a little while and then got ready to go to the Harry Potter movie. I hadn't seen any of them or read the books, so I needed a quick plot summary of the books, provided by the internet and supplemented by Amy. I got the basic idea, so I was ready to see the movie. It was a pretty intense movie, and I was glad I had seen it. John (George's son) met Amy, Mary, and I at the theater for the Movie. We all watched it and then went to a shopping area for John to get some winter shoes. There was also a Lindt chocolate place there. There were so many delicious kinds there, but I think it would probably be cheaper at Walmart. We then went to 5 guys. It is a really good burger place and you can choose everything you want on it for no extra charge. We also got a large fries for all of us to share and we couldn't even finish them. They were really good, but we only finished about half of them. After dinner, we came back to George and Mary's house and read and studied for a long time.

Saturday morning involved us going Downtown with Mary, because she had some meetings in town. We walked around at this outdoor mall type place and went to some fun shops that had novelties and fun things. We also went to Urban Outfitters, the same store at which I bought my french fries wallet in Denver. They had some cool nick-knacks on sale, which many of you will see later;) We then met back up with Mary and one of her friends and her friend's daughter. We ate at this delicious diner that had breakfast food and I had a egg, ham, and cheese Panini, thanks to Amy. I was being indecisive, so she suggested it for me. It was really good. The down town area is really cool and there are many different places to visit. There was also a farmers market type place on Saturdays, but we didn't get down there by the time we had to leave. We then went back to the house again and studied some more. Most of the studying that I attempted to do wasn't all that productive for this weekend, but it was alright. After a while, we played risk again. I took over Africa from the start, and then George took North and South America. Amy and I fought for Australia, but then after she got a set, she took me out. We then met John at Dr. Ho's pizza place for dinner. It was really good. We had some salad, some pizza, and some delicious desserts. We also saw this guy known as "the waving man." Apparently he stands in the median and waves to people on both sides of the road. Here is a little article about him. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/wavingman/ We then went home, finished the game of Risk, though it took a while, and went to bed. Amy, George, and I were all in it til the end and each had our turns of taking over much of the world. First, Amy after she destroyed Mary, then me, then George, who destroyed me and was then able to take out Amy. It is a fun game.

This morning, we got up and ate some Cracklin' Oat Bran. It is really good! I stoked the fire and then we worked on homework for a while. We are leaving today, so I think I will pack up my things now, so we can head back to DC for 2 more intense weeks of School, before I can come home:)

Thanksgiving break :D

Today, I met Amy after her Spanish class, because I didn't have any classes on Wednesday. I had packed up my blue suitcase, so I was ready to go. Clothes... Check! Homework...Check! Electronic devices and other necessities...Check! It was rather cold this morning compared to the other fall weather I had experienced here and it was 44 degrees. I feel a little sorry for everyone back in Montana where it is in the negative range already, but I guess that is the price you pay for being able to see the beautiful mountains and country views all the time.

After Amy's Spanish class, we went to the Library and did some homework. I read and read for my Sociology class, and she did some reading and work for Spanish. After we had all we could take of the homework, (we were getting quite excited for leaving DC on the break), we went and got a grab and go lunch and ate it in her room. It was the first time that we had had a Chicken Caesar wrap and it was pretty good. We usually have the "Hoya Wrap" which has chicken, lettuce, tomato, and some spicyish tangy sauce, but they were out of them, so we obviously got something else. After lunch, we studied in her room for a while and she got all packed and ready to go to Virginia. We did some more homework, but soon got bored with it and then just decided to leave Georgetown at 5:15.

We caught the GUTS bus (Georgetown University Transportation System) and it took us through some narrow streets to the Dupont Circle Metro Stop. On the drive, we squeezed closely between cars, but everyone was safe in the end, so all was well. We carried our 4 bags onto the Metro, which wasn't crowded, because it was rush hour and therefore the trains come quite often, and sat down for the short, 3 stop, ride to Gallery Place-Chinatown. From that stop, we made our way through the maze of escalators, it reminded me somewhat of those pictures with stairs going every which direction, and arrived on H and 7th streets. There was a huge Chinatown Archway there, which was quite elaborate and Chinese looking.

A more intense adventure awaits... To be continued... Tomorrow.

From there, we walked to the McDonalds, because Amy had been craving a Big Mac ever since I had eaten one that night. We arrived there and we felt like the minority for once, because Chinatown had a lot more black, Asian, and Hispanic people than the other parts of the Northwest. We were still technically in the NW as far as addresses went, but were were almost in the NE. (we were on 5th st and counts down going towards the center of town)

I ordered the food and Amy stayed at the table to watch the stuff, and she said some guy that said he was getting water and got lemonade instead, she didn't think he was too smart, because they tried to explain it to him, tried to sit down in my seat without asking her. He was in a fancy suit, but we weren't sure how he got it. After we got our food, we were eating, and this scruffy guy with frizzy hair and crazy intense blue/green eyes, looked at Amy as he was walking by and mumbled something, and she said, "Excuse me," and he gave her this weird look. Then he got some caramel syrup from the little dispenser thing and was drinking it from one of those little cups. He then walked by me and mumbled something and I asked what he had said, and he mentioned that he was related to me. I was pretty sure he wasn't, but he insisted a second time, but I then ignored him. I felt badly for the guy even though he really creeped me out, by talking in such a way that I could hardly understand him, and looking at me with those intense crazy eyes. I then went and got a chicken sandwich and a "McDouble." I was going to give him one, but I was pretty scared so I texted Amy which I should give him, because I wanted to give the other one to someone else. I gave him the double cheese burger, and he was very grateful.

After a little bit, some other lady that seemed a little better off sat down next to him and Amy thought that we should maybe move because there was a lack of seats that forced her to sit by him, but as it turned out they knew eachother. They didn't talk to eachother, but then this other lady came by and sat across from them and she had a backpack and a bag and did talk to the first lady. They were arguing and bickering over the dinner at a church that they didn't get that day as it would usually have been, because the church people said that they were instead going to have a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. She had a bunch of newspaper clippings that I think were ads and coupons, but I couldn't tell. A little time later, this rather large lady walked in and she was looking unhappy, so Amy smiled at her, and she scowled back! She sat at the last remaining seat at the table of four.

A little later, this other black guy with a basketball cap on came in and stood by that group. Then a little later, he came over to us and introduced himself as Enzel, like Denzel without the D. He said we may have seen him on TV. He liked to joke around a lot as he later told us. He then asked to sit by me and I let him, so he could talk to us. It was quite the experience. It almost smelled as though he had alcohol on his breath, but it may just have been the lack of teeth brushing for a long time. He didn't have one of his rows of teeth, though now I forget which one it was, and I think that was one thing that made me think he hadn't brushed in a while. He was from New Jersey supposedly, and then he said it with the Jersey accent just to be funny. He asked if I balled after he noticed Amy was from Georgetown. He talked to us about basketball for a little bit. I said I didn't ball, and he said, oh yeah, cause your white... We laughed at that. Then he tried to get us to sing some songs, be we could barely understand what he was saying or the artists he was mentioning. He was hooked on this one song by Cat Stevens, he kept saying, "Cats in the cradle with the .. .. ..... We couldn't really hear what he said after a while, but he kept saying that over and over. He tried to get me to sing Billy Jean, but I didn't remember how it started or I would have humored him a little. Then he asked us if we heard the poet, but he said it really strangely and we couldn't really understand what he was saying until he mentioned rhythm and blues and rap. Then I figured out what he was talking about. He then tried to start a rhyme and wanted us to continue it, but it was such as silly rhyme and I could never think of anything that made sense or rhymed. Then he tried to rap... Anyway, He kept telling us to for quite a while and offered to get us something to eat several times, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have. He may actually have done it, but I don't see why he would have been hanging out with the rest of that group if he had actually had enough money to buy things. Anyway, we had to leave to go meet John, so we left and said good bye to him. I asked if he wanted the Chicken Sandwich I had and he said something like, I'm black aren't I? The words that I have somewhat remembered don't do him justice, because he actually was really nice and not too sarcastic, he was just trying to be funny.

After that whole homeless people encounter, we walked 6 blocks or so to the bus stop, and then met John. He got dropped of around the corner though while lots of them waited for the bus to pull around front, so when we were watching the bus for him, he showed up right there. Amy and he were glad to see each other, and I was glad to see him too, though I had never seen him before. We then walked back to the McDonalds, because he had just been on a bus for a long time and was really hungry. After that we walked back towards where his stop was and we met George there. We drove for an hour or so and them made a stop to grab some beverages and food.

We then made it out to their house by 11:15 and went inside and met Moira and Mary and Moira's boyfriend Steve. We were all sitting around the kitchen counter and there was some awkward silence and George said, "Does anyone want to have a knife fight?!" It was really funny anyway. They have a nice house, but everyone was pretty tired after we had gotten there, so we went to bed. I got to sleep on a cot, which was fine, but I got really cold in the middle of the night and had to steal another blanket. That was the end of yesterday, but I will leave today for another blog post.

A new Record!!!

Today, I set a record for the least time spent in my room when I wasn't with Amy nor was I in the class room.

So today, I slept in quite a while longer than usual, and then got going by about 9. I then looked up some things for my Understanding Music class group project. We are doing Hey Ladies by the Beastie Boys, so I listened to it and wrote a little analysis about it. I also looked up some information on the genre and the group as a whole. After this, I stayed in my room and asked some questions about our final project for Sociology. It is a picture essay, where we give some background information about the topic using our "sociological imagination" then have 8-10 pictures to support the points made in the essay.

After that, I went to the Math tutoring room, because I didn't understand how to do substitution integrating at first, but now I understand it better:) Then, I went to get a grab and go Lunch, which was really good:)I then tried to go to the Physics office hours, but he was in a meeting and then came out to tell me that and I felt silly, because I had read that email, but just misread it and thought that they started at 2:30 instead of the actual 3:30. After messing up there, I went to work on some physics homework with Jeff in the Library. Then... after that, I went to the office hours of Phil johnson.

I got some dinner, typed up the Music project piece, went to the exercise room, then got super tired. IT was one of the elliptical trainers and I went on it for quite a while... Burning 13 calories per minute. It felt really weird to go backwards, but it was good, because it exercised some different muscles. Then, after that I went and got some more food, because I need to get going on my meal plans, I think I still have like 40 left, so... I have to go to bed so I can wake up in time for breakfast. Goodnight!

I went over to the library to work with Jeff for a little bit, and then went to

Good times and confusion

For those who have already read this, there is a little bit more right at the bottom.

Today was a fairly average day as it started, but then it got more interesting as it progressed.

I walked to Church and talked to Grandpa Sacry for a while. I met Amy on Wisconsin and we then walked up to church. The service seemed pretty long, but then afterward, I got recruited to sing in their choir... Thats what I get for trying to sing parts. It was fun to sing some more, but my throat isn't quite up to par yet as far as singing goes, so I got tired quickly especially singing tenor. After Church, we listened to Mary tell us how to get to Columbia Heights where the Target is (she is rather thrifty and knows all of the bus routes and transfer spots and everything). Amy had to buy some pants for her interview to be an RA, and I needed some shampoo. So, we went up there and went shopping for a bit. As we were leaving, a homeless guy tried to get me to buy his newspaper, but I didn't at first but then felt badly, since I had heard of the newspaper before and knew it was for a good cause. It is called Street Sense and is sold by the homeless people for money They can get a permit and then go and buy a bunch of papers and sell them around town. Anyway, we were going to go eat at iHop, but Amy checked it out and there was supposed to be a 45 minute wait, so we didn't go there we went to Panda Express, a fast food buffet type thing where you can choose 2 entrees and some type of rice or noodles. It was really good.

Anyway, we then rode the Metro back to Rosslyn and walked over to Georgetown. After we got back to her dorm room, we had what we thought was a mango, but as peeled it I found out it was actually a papaya. Amy had been given it because she helped some people get in to the dorms. They were the adults that live on another floor in New South. WE unpacked everything and I tried the Arch Support that I had gotten at Target. I hadn't looked as closely at is as I should have, so it turns out that it was actually for 5-10 foot size in womens. Silly me! After that, we did some homework and then played Racquetball in the Yates Field House. It was really fun to finally play racquetball again:) I had to pay 5 dollars to get in there since I was a visitor and didn't have a pass.

I then walked a little ways and then took the Circulator bus, a cheaper version of the Metro bus, over to Dupont Circle and then went back to American. I had been planning to get a Big Mac again, since I was too late for the dining room once again. I was pretty sure that I could go there, since it said it was open 24 hours. As I got there I noticed that it was actually only open 24 hours Friday and Saturday. IT was in the fine print, anyway, I got there at 11:15, 15 minutes too late. I then went to Subway instead and got a footlong turkey breast on flat bread, because I though it would be good. So I told them what I wanted, and then I said toasted, and it turns out their toaster was broken. Then, I found out they were completely out of lettuce too, so I had a cold sub without lettuce. I thought veggies would be better than not, so I got the only things that I liked... Onions, peppers, and tomatoes. I then got chipotle sauce. IT was an Ok sub, just not at all what I was expecting. Anyway, that was all there was to my day. GOodnight!

So, as I woke this morning, I still had lots of onion flavor in my mouth! I got ready for the day and even brushed my teeth 2 times, yet still it stays there. I don't think it is good to get onions on Subway sandwiches.

Some extra information

Yes, as I have now been told by Carla, and my Grandma, it was indeed Ed and Charlene Gleazer. He was the seventh president of Graceland and he was also apparently influential in establishing the Community College system.

Amy's aunt called while we were studying yesterday, and said that her husband would be coming in to DC to pick up their son, John, from a bus from New York, where he goes to college. We then canceled our train tickets and are now going to ride with them to Charlottesville on Wednesday evening. I don't get to ride on a train, once again, but it saves a bit of money, so I guess my train trip will have to wait.

There were originally 2 things that I was going to write this morning, but I have forgotten the other since last night, so I guess I will have write again some other time.

Dinner and some friends

The week went by without many hassles and before I knew it, I had finished a lit of homework, seen Amy on Wednesday, she came up here on Monday too, and she was again here at American on Friday. We did a little homework and then got picked up by Warren. Emma, the other girl from American, went to dinner with us also. When we got there, she made me stay in the entry way for a while, because she had a surprise or something. I then was allowed to go into living room and there was Greg Long. That was a bit of a surprise, but when she asked me if I knew him, was a little unsure, because I didn't remember him exactly. I knew we were related, but I wasn't sure how. Any way he and his fiance, Amanda were there along with this other pretty old couple named Ed and Charlene. They were in their 90s, but seemed pretty young for being that old, I mean fairly with it, besides for their lack of hearing, and a little memory loss, which may have been only a result of not having heard the information the first time. They were really nice and funny:) We each grabbed numbers at the beginning. Everyone sat in the living room for a while to talk before dinner started. Amy helped Lillian, the lady of the house, with some of the setup.

I talked with Greg for a while. It was good to talk to him, even though I probably hadn't really talked to him before. I remembered him from the reunion in Montana, and he said he remembered when we stopped at the one in Lamoni. I talked to him a little about my classes and I heard what he does. He apparently works for Weatherbug, this online weather service. He is an IT guy and she also works there as a meteorologist to check the data coming in for accuracy. I told him that i might go to Alaska this summer to work at the cannery and he said that it was something very memorable and that I should if I got the chance. He said that by the end of the summer he could hardly open his hand to put on the gloves, because his hand was getting used to holding the knife for 15 hours a day. He also told me about this time when he was sea kayaking and he found a sea lion and was taking some pictures of it. He got a little too close and it roared at him and he said he got really scared. I could Imagine getting really scared, because they are pretty big and fast in the water. Anyway, Ed and Charlene told everyone about this campground where they stay during the winters.

After Angie and Anil, her significant other, showed up, we had dinner. It was somewhat like an enchilada, except there was a cream sauce on it and olives on top.. :S There was also some good salads. We sat at our corresponding numbered places, which were distributed randomly around. There we talked more and our table had a good Apple versus Microsoft conversation. Emma's power input area had some problem on the new type Macbook and it would have been $1300 to replace it had she not had the protection still on it. We also heard about the three things need in life according to the 94 year old Ed. They were 1) Something to do. 2) Someone to love. and 3) Something to look forward to. I thought they were pretty wise yet simple words. He is working on this paper about aging and says he will put it in a sermon some day soonish to give at Church. We had some good dessert and talked about more random things.

They also had a ping pong table downstairs and we played. I'm not that bad, but they were a lot better than me. Warren and Lillian play everyday and are really good. Anil was also really good and could compete with them too. I played Amy and Angie and beat them, but lost to Anil. There was some crazy spin there. The balls were possibly a little harder than the ones at our house, like had a thicker plastic layer, and they had really nice grippy paddles. It was a really fun night:)

After that, Angie and Anil brought us back to American and we worked on homework a little more before Amy went home. There was a bit of confusion, because originally we were going to get to the metro early enough so Amy could catch the shuttle from Dupont back to Georgetown. She didn't really want to go to Rosslyn, because it takes a long time and you still have to walk a mile or so, so it is faster and more efficient to just walk. So we were at the Metro station at Tenleytown and the train was going to be too late, so Amy came back out, and we just missed the Shuttle back to American, so we walked all the way down Wisconsin to 37th instead of going back to American first to follow the usual path down Massachusetts and then Wisconsin.

So today, I walked to Georgetown and we worked in the Library all morning after I ate a delicious banana and crunchy peanut butter sandwich that Amy made for me, since my dining room doesn't open until 11 on the weekends. Then we got a sandwich at the grocery store and also some cookies:) They are really good cookies! A little before that we went to turn in one of Amy's papers and from that building, New North, we could watch the football game from the end of the hall way that had a balcony on it. It was pretty cool and there was a much better view there than there would have been in the stands, even though it was a little farther away.

There was another bad timing event as I came home. The shuttle from Georgetown we just missed (saw it driving away) then, I missed the one at Tenleytown, so I was waited a little, then started walking, but it would have been too long. Then, I waited for the shuttle at another stop along the way and arrived back at American too late to get dinner. I was also going to go to the gym to get some exercise, and by the time I checked at 8:40, I realized it actually closed at 8:30 on the weekends. I did some pushups in my room and read some more, then went to McDonalds and got the best Big Mac I have ever tasted! The buns were so soft and it was so perfectly made and I was hungry, which also helped, but that is somewhat beside the point. I also got a pumpkin shake which was very delicious, like pumpkin ice cream that I have had before, except it was a little sweeter... It was really good anyway.

I went back to my room, worked on this, and went to bed.

Another time lapse

So nearly 10 days has passed since last I wrote... What to say??

Last week, I didn't go to Georgetown at all until Friday. Amy had been working on the set for a one acts festival with the Mask and Bauble Drama department, so she practiced a lot in the evenings all week. I did homework like crazy and then did some more homework. My main assignments were my Discussion paper for Global Majority and my Poverty Project for Sociology. I spent a lot of time looking up information for the Poverty project and finally put together an essay and cited a bunch of sources all day Thursday. I also did my lab write-up.

There was a very interesting class in Sociology on Thursday. The rainbow speakers board came in and talked to us. This gay kid told us his story and then we could ask questions and such. There was one thing that I found quite interesting and it was the continuum of different aspects of self. The first is sex and the far sides of the spectrum are male and female. In the middle is intersex which is like if their body parts weren't correctly developed at birth. The next aspect is gender identity which ranges from man to woman to the intermediate "gender fluid" whatever that is supposed to mean. This is how one views themselves. Gender expression is the next category which ranges from masculine to feminine to androgynous. This is how you express yourselves and how you are perceived by others. Then there is sexual orientation from being attracted to women to attracted to men, or both (pansexual/bisexual). There are so many terms. Anyway, I though it was interesting the differences between sex and gender.

Friday was a big day full of classes and after them, I went down to see Amy for the first time in the week! We studied a while and then went to the One Acts Festival. First, they did a play that was written by a Junior from Georgetown. It was really confusing, but Amy said she was starting to get it after the 6th or so time sitting behind the scenes and listening to it. The next part was pretty funny and good. I went to 3 nights of the second part (since it was free) and heard a variety of shows. They had dramatic readings which were pretty boring, but they also had some good music. They had "The Chimes" an acapella group, 1000000 Shetland ponies (a funny guy that was in the improv group with his manikin thing. He played his guitar to a narrative and sang some songs he wrote too, in the context of the story. He was one of my favorites. There was also a broadway type group that sang some funny songs and an improv group. There was also this lady that performed a dramatic monologue and another annoying lady that sang songs that didn't make sense. She had a decent voice and played the guitar. She seemed to like to just randomly throw the F-word into each of her songs at least once. She would be repeating a normal verse and would just put it in there for kicks... People around here swear so much! Its quite annoying and very rarely makes sense in the context. I don't like swearing in general and see it as quite futile, but I hate i even more when it is completely unwarranted.

Anyway, Amy and I bought some Chinese food one night after the show and ate it... We got 2 quarts, one of fried rice and another of broccoli beef. They were both really good, but it was so much food! It was a wonderful dinner overall:)

We went to church on Sunday and Bill Pennington spoke. He was from somewhere else, besides here. The songs this Sunday were pretty good though. After church, we finished making the arrangements to go to Lillian Wallace's house this Friday for dinner. They have a pingpong table and it should be pretty good:) After that, we went down to georgetown and ate the left over Chinese food. The white rice didn't last so well... IT was super dry! We then worked on homework again... For the millionth time + or - 999000.

Today, Amy walked up here after her Calculus class and we did something else new... Homework!:( Don't worry, I'm getting used to it:P So anyway, we ate food twice, so I have only about 50 meals left on my plan, so I really have to get going more quickly on them, since I won't even be here at all over Thanksgiving:) Hooray! I had a bit of a moment as I was walking Amy part way home. I had to go the bathroom really badly, and there aren't just bathrooms sitting at each corner, so I walked probably .3 miles feeling like I was going to explode. It was not fun! Amy and I tried to go to the gas station that we always pass on the corner of 37th and Wisconsin, but it was super small and "had no bathroom," though we could clearly see one, I guess it wasn't for the public. Then, we finally found a restaurant that I wouldn't feel too badly going into, so I stopped at Z-burger. I then felt a little badly for using their bathroom, so I bought the cheapest thing on their menu, even though I was pretty full from having just eaten. I wanted to be productive though, so I sat in there and read my Physics Textbook. Amy had to get back to georgetown a little earlier today than usual, because she had her first play practice for The Christmas Carol.

Ok, its getting really late, and I haven't been getting quite enough sleep lately, so I think I'm going to go to bed. Good Bye all!

Where has the time gone?

This week has blurred by!

Wednesday, I went to Georgetown, studied and they went to Chi Alpha. Amy and I did homework for quite a while, and then I walked home in the rain, but I had the tarp from a broken umbrella, so I stayed mostly dry.

Thursday and Friday were spent doing homework and studying for 2 tests that I was to have on Friday. I took the tests and then met Amy on Tunlaw as she was walking up here. We worked on homework and had some dinner, and then I tried to help her with Calculus. We walked towards Georgetown and I taught her the chain rule, which was very confusing at first, because we didn't even have any paper to use, so it was just by word of mouth. I ran home, well all the way up Wisconsin Ave. and then started running up Massachusetts, but I was a little tired and didn't have quite the right clothing, so I stopped. Oh yeah, and... I borrowed Amy's sweater, because I had had my wool coat, but I didn't want to sweat in it, because it isn't very washable. I also wanted to get home quicker than walking, so I used her sweater and left my coat with her. I must have looked quite funny, because I had a purple and black sweater that was quite tight on me and was running. I called Darcy when I was on Massachusetts Ave, and heard her tell about her birthday party.

On Saturday, I woke up fairly early and walked down to Georgetown. I had lots of Homework, and Amy and I worked and worked on homework until 1 when she had to go to do a play teching. She was behind the stage and made sure people came out when it was their part. After that, we were really hungry, so we went over to Vital Vittles and got some food. It is the campus grocery store and has some decent deals. They have just gotten a milkshake maker thingy called F'real.
http://www.freal.com/
There is a freezer that has a bunch of different cups of frozen things. You take out a cup, take off the lid, and put it in the machine. Then you select the desired thickness of your drink. There is a little cup holder thing, and it then raises the platform in to the machine and mixes the previously frozen cup of sugary creamy goodness! They have smoothies and milkshakes and we got a Reece's Peanut butter cup milkshake. They are really good and we got one with the sandwich that we bought. I mentioned that we were really hungry did I not?? Anyway, we got a turkey Manhattan which has cheddar cheese, turkey, bacon, spinach, and some dressing stuff. It is really good. Then, I saw another sandwich that said -1.50 on it. I just thought that the - was maybe just like a bullet point or something to get your attention, so I talked Amy into getting it. There was also a beef one, but it was less food, so we decided that the Italian one with Ham and Salami would be better. We were wrong! It had some pickles and onions and pepper salsa like thing on the bottom, and salami, which I also don't like. What made it even worse was that it actually cost 4.50 and was merely 1.50 off the original price since it was a day old. To sum it up, it was gross.

After that not so good end to our lunch, we went to the business building and studied for several more hours before the movie. It was Inception and it was really good once again, and... we missed the beginning once again. We saw a little more of it than last time, but it was still kinda right in the middle of the action. After that, we walked to the bus stop and I waited for the bus to come.

The bus came at about 10:10 and then waited there for a while. Then, we took off. It was a very small bus, smaller than the senior citizen bus in Whitehall, and it had 2 seats on the left of the aisle and 1 on the right. The driver was pretty, but since the bus left from a different place than normal, he drove down K street or one near there. He was driving 60 mph on the 35 mph road and it was also much unlike a bus, because it had a bit of pick-up! It could get going and slow down pretty quickly. I then made it to the Metro stop in a much quicker time than normal, and walked down the escalator. As I arrived on the platform, a Metro train was coming. I saw the name disappear from the list and I knew that it had come, so I ran across the platform, down the escalator, and onto the train right before it left. To make a long story short, I made it home in only 45 minutes taking the Metro,, which is a new record.

I have to get working on my research paper more, but I hope you have enjoyed this small update.

Goodnight.

Halloween:)

Sunday was an average Sunday for the most part. I walked to church and met Amy there, then we went to Georgetown to do some studying until the Halloween party at 6:30. We went back to her room and got ready. I was a the world's poorest tango dancer. This was by my reasoning that I cannot dance well, so I have never made any money tango dancing, hence poorest. I had a red, reflective at some angles, shirt, my black dress pants and shoes. I slicked my hair back and had a feather on my shirt. Amy made me a black mustache and I looked a little like Hitler with it on. Anyway, She was a leprechaun and had a green under shirt and a green jacket with the tails in the back and also a large green hat.

We went to the Chi Alpha Halloween party that was held in Jon, the leader's room. (He lives on campus on one of the floors in another building) There we ate some candy and played a trivia game, but Amy and I lost, though I was a much bigger loser than she was. We also bobbed for apples and had a costume contest. Someone dressed up as Facebook and had a large posterboard made to look like it. Then they had a cord around the top so you could wear it. We bobbed for apples in a tub that was shaped like a duck. It was his cute little daughters pool. She is adorable! I haven't seen too many small children around here, like younger than 18, so it was kinda unique.

After that, we went and watched The Exorcist... It was pretty scary, mostly because it had several needle scenes in it. It is somewhat of a tradition to watch it at Georgetown on Halloween, because it takes place at Georgetown and there are several scenes on campus and just down the street from there. I recognized where I walked, which was a little scary, but oh well... The campus was a lot different though, because it was filmed quite a while ago. I went home after the movie and went to bed.

On monday, I got my I'm feeling lazy, getting fat, and eating too much downs, so I did some pushups and situps and then looked up a workout to help burn fat. It was super hard. Today, it hurt to walk in any way, up stairs, down ramps, or even on flat surfaces. I also did quite a bit of homework.

Today, I woke up and went to take a shower and noticed a sign on the door. It said, "Remember men: Its no-shave November." It had a sketched picture of an old man with a beard. I thought that I would like to do that, even though I don't have much to grow out. I'm going to shave it before we go to Amy's family for thanksgiving, because its sure to look scraggly and horrible!

Later today, I worked on homework for a long time, and then there was a fire-drill. In the cold, so I dressed up and went to the library to study. I think that if there really was a fire, I might have had to jump out my window, because I was really slow at gathering everything. Anyway, I studied there for a while and then went back to my room a little later.

That's all that has happened recently. And I got an 87 on my Sociology paper if I forgot to mention that before. Also, a 20/20 on the Understanding Music one. 3 tests on Friday... Wahoo!

Goodnight!

Rally to Restore "Sanity"

Last night was pretty late for me and for Charlie, but he woke up early to go to the Rally. He was out of here by 7:00 which is by far the earliest he has gotten up on a saturday. He met some more of his friends and walked to the Metro Station to get on when it opened.

Jim, Amy, and myself however decided that we would walk and avoid all of the crowds... Yeah right! Anyway, I got up at about 8 and walked down to Georgetown to meet Amy and Jim who had walked across the Key Bridge from Rosslyn. They ate breakfast, and I watched some lacrosse until they finished. I had already eaten some fruit by the way, but Amy got me a bagel:) Lacrosse was pretty interesting, since I had never actually seen it played before, but it didn't seem all that exciting from the sidelines, and it was girls lacrosse. So anyway, right after that, we started walking to the rally. We had some interesting conversations and arrived at the scene at about 11:20. There were so many people even before then that had been walking on the sidewalks too. Then a little later when we were past the monument about equidistant from the monument and the Capitol Building, we stopped. It wasn't so much a voluntary stop as it was a stop, because the masses of people had become too dense that one couldn't move further. Previous to this, we had been wading through the people inch by inch, but then, as we were right next to the first aid tent, we stopped. This was somewhat unfortunate, because some people claimed to have been injured and we were often asked to step aside to make room for them. There was the main stage, and them 5 "Jumbotrons" which were huge screens that had speakers beside them so everyone could feel like they were closer. We were about in the middle of the group by the time it started, and being by the last jumbotron on the left, I have no clue how the people behind us could see anything at all. We got pretty lucky, as we could hardly see the jumbotron that was in front of us.

Ok, so anyway, enough of the crowd description for the moment. The show started with a preformance by the "Roots." I had never heard of them, and they were ok and got the crowd going pretty well. After that, to two main hosts from Myth Busters came out and had us do the wave. It was realy cool looking, but at the moment, I can't find a good video of it from the cameras in the front. A little later after Stephen Colbert did a parody of the Chilean miners, as he came on stage from his "fear bunker" and emerged on the stage in one of the capsuls used to rescue the Miners. Then they had this performance. It was really cool to hear songs that I had actually heard of before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoIjLFmit84 Then went on to have some more performaces by musicians and then they had the reasonableness awards and the fear awards. Anyway, there were some video montages and they were pretty cool/somewhat funny. It was a pretty crazy experience and I had never seen famous people before. Actually I didn't see them, but if the jumbotron had been moved over a tiny bit, I could have seen them, because I could see the edge of the stage.

We had a crazy time getting away from there too, and the streets were packed for what seemed probably a mile or so. We were eventually able to move again though after 20 minutes or so mucking through the crowds. I will definitely remember this for a long time. After the standing for hours and hours and walking for a long way, our feet were so sore. We walked all the way to Union Station, so we could hopefully avoid some crowds, but we still had to wait until the second trian came before we could get on. We searched out the bathrooms in the union station and there were huge lines, but we eventually made it. After this, we headed to American University to get dinner and rest our feet a while. Jim left to go back to his Hotel to do some homework before leaving today in the early morning. After that Amy and I did some homework and then she went home and we went to bed.

There are lots more videos about the rally if you want to look for them. There were also lots and lots of signs.

Here are some that I found.

Jim comes to Town.

I would be sleeping right now, but since it is close to Halloween and everyone is dressed up and noisy in the hall way, I thought I should at least do something productive while I can't sleep.

The week since I last wrote was normal and I just did homework, saw Amy, and saw Jim along with tens of thousands of other people.

On Friday night, Amy and I met Jim at Adams Morgan, because we thought his friends would be around there. His plane was delayed and so we didn't meet him until about 9. There were other travel troubles for him too. Apparently someone had attempted suicide, and I imagine they succeeded. He was on the Metro and then as he was about to transfer to the red line, there was another train on the other side and officers were looking under each car. They shut down the metro and when he was leaving he saw the stretcher being brought in for the person to be carried out. He was also delayed by a veteran that he started to talk to and tried to help without giving him money, like helping him look for a place to stay for the night. He wasn't homeless, but he came for some surgery at the Veteran's hospital in DC, and they had rescheduled him without previously telling him, so he was temporarily stranded. The veteran started to leave, but didn't have enough money to get a place at the hostile, so Jim gave him some money. Then, after the subway incident, he found out that the money he had given the man would have been just the amount for his taxi ride.

We met him at Adams Morgan, because there were some good restaurants there and some people he knew were going to meet us there. They never showed up, but we had a good dinner at an Indian restaurant called Little India. We caught up with him a while and heard about his book, which will be for sale by the end of November or the beginning of December. It sounds like it should be pretty good. Anyway, I just spent a long time looking it up and now I'm tired and will have to tell about the "Rally to Restore Sanity" later, though it was quite the experience.

Goodnight!

Changes...

So, to preface the events of today, I will start with yesterday. While I was studying at Georgetown, I got a text from Tyler saying he was going to be moving out to give us some more room or something. I actually preferred the triple, because it saves me 2600 dollars per year. At any rate, after I came home from Georgetown, I arrived at a room that seemed empty. He always had the most stuff, since he is form Boston, so his part of the room was filled up more than Charlie and my side. He also had posters on the walls, but by the time I got back, there was nothing of his left. Only an empty be and some cupboards were still there as I arrived. The TV was gone too, which kinda stunk, because Charlie has a DVD player that he bought here, also his N64. I was OK with the move as long as I wouldn't have to pay for the double rate for a while. Tyler moved in with one of his friends that was in a single. Also, last night, I was really tired and I went the bathroom and noticed that they had little containers under the dividers of the toilet stalls. I thought it was strange, but didn't pay much attention to it.

I slept for quite a while and then woke up and worked on my homework for lots of hours. In the morning, I went the bathroom and a girl went in right before me. This wasn't too unusual since they often used our bathroom, but then she let me in on the secret that they had changed the bathrooms. Then, she said that they switched the bathrooms. The bathrooms are identical, so at mid term they switch them so everyone will have to walk the same amount. The halls are shaped kinda like a an H with the bar connecting each side being the elevator area and the community room. Anyway, on the inside of each outer part of the H, there is a bathroom. The guys bathroom was on my side of the H, but now I have to walk through the middle portion to get to the guys bathroom. That would explain the little containers by each stall I noticed the night earlier.

Besides this today was rather boring, but I got a lot done, because my only class was canceled today since my teacher's father had some clot that could potentially be fatal. She stayed in the hospital with him. Also, Amy stayed at Georgetown today, so I only had homework to do the whole day. I also did my I'm being to lazy routine, so I skipped breakfast and lunch, since I got up pretty late. I then did 1000 jumping jacks, 300 push-ups, 300 sit-ups, 200 lunges, 370 water bottle curls, and 310 seconds worth of holding my feet close to the ground but off of it to keep my stomach muscles tightened. All of these exercises were over the whole course of the day, so it wasn't too much, though I did pretty tired by the end.

Charlie stayed in the room almost all day today, which was unusual for him as far as I know, but anyway, that's about all that happened.

I also had a little argument with the Housing and Dining programs people to allow our room status to stay triple, but in the end we got it figured out. We will leave the furniture in the room and have to be ready for someone to move in at any time, but that should be OK.

Goodnight! I'm going to bed early today:)

Week in Review.

Ok, so the last time I posted anything was on the 19th. Not many major things have happened since that day, but several things to note have taken place.

Wednesday I walked down to Georgetown to go to Chi Alpha with Amy. We worked on homework for a long time before it and got some Subway too.

Thursday was a normal thursday too, and the lab we did this day actually worked well. It was one regarding the conservation of linear momentum. The data didn't come out all that well as we had large error, but the setup was straight forward and we finished most of the calculations in class. Jeff Gu, an Asian kid was in our group this time since his partner was gone. He was a lot better to work with than Jordan. Jordan is fine to work with, but thinks too much about some things and wastes time as a result. Jeff has a better knowledge of the ideas it seems. Later that day, I went to get some help on my Calculus and then went to the Library to work with Jeff on some of the Physics homework. We both had already finished the required amount, but we then did a little extra, as much as we could anyway. He was dressed up even in our lab class with a tux type concert outfit. He said he was going to play his violin at the Kennedy center in a benefit orchestra for children that can't afford instruments of their own. His concert was at 6, after 2 hours of practicing. Judging from that, I would say that he is pretty awesome at Violin. Possibly as good as Amy:)

Friday was pretty busy and good. I went to physics class and he did the centripetal fire experiment. It turns our that as the platform spins, the air is pushed to the outside and as a result, there is greater air pressure on the outside than the inside and the flame is pushed to the inside. Following physics class, I worked on my discussion paper for Global Majority for several hours, because to make up for the movies that we had watched in that class, we didn't have class on this Friday. The rest of the classes were OK, but since this week was "An All-American Weekend" (Family weekend) there were some parents that sat in on our Understanding Music class. I'm not sure if that was the reason, but the professor seemed to talk much faster and took responses from us less than ever before. I really hope he isn't like that for the rest of the time.

After classes, I walked down to Georgetown and talked to Darcy a little. She was working on the shelter at the Silver Tower Park in Whitehall. We were talking about doing that when Amy and I were in charge of the Interact club, but it never got going. Anyway, I had been carrying a grab and go lunch all the way down there to eat with Amy for dinner. Oh, there was something amusing that took place as I was getting the lunch. So, I had went to the TDR for my lunch, and was then going to go to get a grab and go for dinner. I grabbed 2 bananas from the TDR and carried them to the Box lunch area. The box lunches come with a sandwich, wrap, or salad, a drink, and 3 sides. As I walked up there, I realized that they also had bananas as sides there. It must have looked really suspicious, because I grabbed 3 more sides. Ok, so I was at Georgetown, and I met Amy and we studied for a while and then went to watch the Georgetown's Children's Theater perform the Velveteen Rabbit. They prepare a play for about half a semester and then they travel around performing the play at various childrens hospitals and schools for the rest of the semester. The play was pretty good, but very children oriented as promised. They had the audience do things such as sing happy birthday to the little boy, hug someone to make them feel better (by wrapping their arms around themselves), show their best smiles, and frowns, and some other things. This was the play for which Amy made the cool poster. I saved some programs:) After this, I went home and went to bed, because tomorrow morning would be early!

Saturday morning, I got up, got ready, and went to the Community of Christ garage sale. The proceeds went to some homeless organization or something. Anyway, I went over there early in the morning and helped them set up the tables and move books and such. The tables were very heavy and we had to carry them all the way around the church. After that, we had to carry 7 rows of pews worth of boxes of books of varying sizes and shapes and colors and backings. (hard or soft backed) Anyway, Amy came too and we looked around the place and carried things to and fro and bought several items.

After this, we went to the new building at American, possibly business or foreign relations or something, and studied for a couple of hours. We then had some lunch and got ready to go to the Springfield Mall. It looked really cool online and had over one million square feet of retail space. We rode the shuttle to Tenleytown and then rode the Metro to the Metro Center and then transferred to the Blue line and took it all the way to the end past Arlington National Cemetery and past the Pentagon and past Reagan International Airport. It took us about 40 minutes of straight travel on the blue line, but then we were finally there. We got out and found a large parking center that was at the end of the Metro for commuters. We then walked about half of a mile over to the mall. We went into Macy's and looked for my coat. (The reason we went to this mall was to pick up our coats that had been a graduation present.) I tried on several and eventually found one that fit pretty well, but still has a bit of growing into room and is a zip up black wool one. Amy tried on some at Macy's too, but couldn't find the right one. We walked around the mall a while and then over to the JC Penney's to look for some more coats. Amy found a good one there that was purple, but there was also a gray one that was the same style, so she got that one.

Amy's mom was going to pay for them, so we called her up when we were at the checking out to get the card information. The cashier then put it in and we went to get my coat from Macy's. Amy had written the information on the JC Penney's receipt and we just gave that to check out lady. She was hispanic and tried to help us, but she was inputting the information to what looked to us to be a Macy's card spot on the computer. Anyway, it didn't work. Then, we went in search of a more competent check-out lady. We found one, but she also thought it was a bit more suspicious to have the card information of someone from Montana written on a receipt. We tried to pay for it explaining that it was Amy's mom, but I don't think they believed us... After thinking about it a bit, I don't think I would have believed us either, since she hadn't seen us get the information from Sue on the phone.

We bought some good Chinese food at a place called Sarku Japan. There were spanish speakers working there. I guess it could have been Japanese food, but that wouldn't have been as fun to explain. We also got a milkshake that was delicious! It was strawberry and had some extra cherry flavors floating around in there. We walked back to the Metro station as it was getting kinda late, then we finally made it back to American at 8. We watched Blood Diamond, one of those movies for Global Majority, and then Amy went home.

Sunday, I went to church and then walked down to Georgetown. There were some leftover baked goods from the garage sale, so I had some cookies and this strange bar. It had marshmallows and fudge encasing them. It was super amazing! We worked on homework for a while, then Josiah called me back. (I had called several people on my walk down to Georgetown from Church on Massachusetts Ave.) We then went to a costume sale that the drama department was having. There was a really cool robe that was very sturdy, but I put it back on the rack and it got taken right away because it was so awesome! Amy got this fun leprechaun costume and some peach colored pants for Halloween. People from Georgetown can go trick or treating down Embassy Row. I would have gone too, but I have classes until 4:50 on Friday, and it ends at 5. I got a red shirt though in case we dress up just to walk around on Saturday evening with Jim (Amy's brother that will be here). We did some more homework, then had a wonderful dinner of Ben and Jerry's Ice cream, a sub, and some honey bbq fritos:) We studied even more and then I walked home and talked to my Sacry grandparents. It was really good to hear from them too:)

Well, its late, that's all I did, and I'm going to bed. Enjoy!

Ahh! Why do these things need titles? I have no imagination!

So, yesterday and today have been pretty boring. I did a lot of exercise yesterday and worked on homework a lot. I did, pushups, sit ups, lunges, jumping jacks, and glass 32 oz. water bottle curls. Today, as I woke I felt the aftermath of my physical activity from the previous day! I only ate lunch yesterday, because lately I have been feeling lazy and I noticed a bit of my Freshman 15 coming on, so I had to shut it down. Thats the reason for the exercise and lack of food. At lunch, I ate some good food and found in my foraging for food to take to my dorm, a very large apple. They had the fruit bins filled with them, a new kind I hadn't seen here before. The apple was probably 4.5 inches in diameter.

Today, I woke up, got ready, and ate that apple. It was so big and filled me up, even after not having eaten since 2 the previous afternoon. Physics was pretty fun as usual and he did a demonstration and some examples on the board. There was this setup that we tried at the end of class that had to candles with glass protecting them from the wind. The idea was to spin them, as they were on opposite sides of a rotating stick kinda like this from the top view. O---.---O, except the pivoting point was centered. Anyway, the glass protectors were about 6 inches long and he only had a bic lighter. So he tried to light it, but his hands were too big and it eventually burned out. Then, he tried again, several times, because the flame was long and he thought he could get it. IT didn't work. Then, he looked in the back room to find the torch so he could light it that way, but it wasn't there. I said this previously, but he heard it when another girl said it. Just roll up a piece of paper , light it, and then light the candles with it... Brilliant right? Well anyway, he tried this, but the roll of paper wasn't that small, so it started on fire rather quickly. He first tried to stick the paper down in it, but the flames (2 or 3 inches) were coming back up towards his hands, so then he flipped it over and held the paper up into the glass container. To conclude this story, I'll say that it didn't ever light and we'll do it on Friday. The smoke alarms didn't go off, so we were safe, but it smelled quite smoky:) He is a really funny guy, and he is really smart! Here is his home page for American University.

http://nw08.american.edu/~pjohnson/

I hope the link works when I post this.

The rest of my day was pretty boring except for my run, which was long and tiring. I also tried out the "Tavern" for dinner today. It is like the fast food place that takes your meal plan. THere are 2 other places too, but I didn't know about them until I went looking for the Tavern. It has pizza and fries and chicken strips and stuff like that. I got a turkey sandwich that had chopped turkey, peppers, and onions all cooked and then some cheese on top. It was pretty good, but a little dry, so the next time I go over there I think I'll get some mayonnaise. The meal came with a drink and fries, but it said it only cost 4.75, so it isn't a good deal compared to the normal price of the food in the TDR. Ok, so I had never gone over there before and I didn't know what to do but you just order, then take your 2 receipts over to the cooks, hand them one of them, they make it, then you give them your other and they give you the food. There were about 10-15 people waiting about the time I was there, but it is good in general, because it is open much later than the normal dining room. I'll keep that in mind for later.

Thats all the news I have for everyone. Good Bye!

Comments/emails?

I know the basic nature of a blog is for people to ramble on and on about the small variances in their lives or the deeper meanings they find within everyday life, but I rather do it to inform the rest of the word about whats going on with me. I know everyone else if busy with their own lives, but it would still be nice to get some comments or emails regarding what I've done. I know its not really noble or worthy of praise, but just so I could get connected to the outside world a little, ya know? Anyway, I'd love it if someone showed me that this entire use of time wasn't in vain.

Thanks, Travis

Air and Space Museum and more!

This weekend started pretty well for me, because I didn't have classes on Thursday or Friday so I got a lot of homework done. Amy however wasn't so luck, because she had school all of those days. She has a lot of homework, but is really good at getting it done, it seems. Anyway, Amy came over friday afternoon and we ate lunch and then worked on homework in my room for a long time. We had some of the Mountain House freeze dried stuff that we got when we were in Salt Lake. The Beef Straganof was much better than the pasta primavera that we tried while in DC. IT was really good, and it even had mushrooms in it. (Shhh! Don't tell Amy) After dinner, we watched As Good as it Gets, which was a good movie about a cranky OCD guy that makes friends and learns how to live better.

Saturday morning we both worked on our homework for a while at our separate campuses and then I went down to Georgetown at about noon or so. Before that though, I had breakfast for the second time at TDR and had a delicious omelet with tomatoes, peppers, ham, bacon, and cheese. They made it differently than I have seen before, because they put all of the ingredients on the griddle first and then warmed them up and chopped them. After a little while they used a ladle to pour some eggs on the mixture. They contained the eggs with two spatulas and then shaped it as a square. After it cooked for a while, he put some shredded cheese on it and wrapped it up like a burrito.

Amy and I worked on homework a while after I got there, and then we went to the National Air and Space Museum. It was really cool. The building itself is really huge and has 2 main floors. There was a really cool little kids place talking about air and pressure and aerodynamics and such! I really liked it even though it was for little children. They had this one demonstration that had a tube and you could turn on a vacuum to pump the air out. There was a feather inside, so you could see how different it fell without air. There was also a cool exhibit about seeing things on earth and it showed some areal photos and other equipment used for that. The coolest thing by far in that place was an area watched by an infrared camera. The picture was then put up on the screen, so you could see the relative temperatures of your body, or anything in the way of the camera. My nose was quite blue, and my hands were red. Blue was cold, and red was hot. If I rubbed them together quickly, my hands could get even redder. Amy tried to lift up her arm and her armpits were very red. It was cool to experiment with the colors and temperatures of different things. Amy took some pictures of this and they will be on facebook when she posts them, under some new album of hers. The next cool exhibit we saw was one that had satellite images of earth and the moon and different plants and the sun. They were taken pretty close and were very good resolution and blown up pretty large. They were awesome!!! The sun taken by ultraviolet looks really cool.

We started to walk home and then found this guy preaching outside the Museum. He had a big booth and was talking loudly over some speakers. Then there were some atheists that were protesting and kinda making fun of them and one of the atheists went over to the booth and started yelling at them. They were kinda scared and told him to, "Back away in the name of God!" He didn't and no one got hurt, but he argued for a long time and he had to yell to try to be heard over the microphones. Then they let him use a microphone for a little while, but took it away after he started yelling again. It was a pretty intense conversation, but was really interesting and fun to watch.

We finally went back to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station and they got off at the Rosslyn one. We looked around the little mall that is by the metro station and bought some ice cream to share. Then, as we were leaving, we found the store that we were looking for. We had come there in search of a store to buy some supper and a little candy for Despicable Me. We bought some Ravioli some guava wafer cookies. It was a really weird flavor and I had never heard of them before. They tasted pretty good though. We also bought a pack of licorice and a guava nectar drink that was on sale for 37 cents.

We walked back over to Georgetown, worked on homework for a while, ate the dinner, and then went to the movie. It didn't start for a little while, but then they thought they had fixed it so they let it run without the sound for 10 minutes. It was about half an hour late by the time someone in the audience, who happened to be a tech guy from a different part of georgetown, finally fixed the sound. We watched the movie, and I liked it a lot. We worked on homework for a long time after that and I walked over to Rosslyn once more. The drunks were out with a vengeance that night, and there were crazy loud obnoxious people everywhere! One threw up on the metro and then made it off in time to throw up a bunch more on the platform... Blech!

Sunday was pretty good, and I slept in til 9:45... A record for me! I got ready and then walked over to meet Amy for church. We went to church and then escaped as soon as possible so we could get some work done in the afternoon. We had a delicious Meatball Marinara Subway sandwich with chipotle sauce. It is really good and you should try it!!! With that tough, I expended the last of my subway card money:S Oh well. We went to the play after sitting in the library in the hot window room. The play was Arsenic and Old Lace, the same one that Amy during her senior year, so it was fun to see it again. Harry, someone Amy had met during orientation, and I had met after that was Officer O'Hara. He did a great job, and it was a really fun play to watch! I do like watching plays that cast people I know, but this was really fun too! They probably have more acting skills than the Whitehall group, but I didn't think it was nearly as funny. The set was set up differently though, because the audience sat in a rectangle around the table. At each corner was a different entrance. On one corner was the main door, another the window with window seat to hold bodies in, the kitchen was another, and the last was the small set of stairs that Teddy runs up yelling "Charge!!!!!!" The set and clothing were much more fancy, but the stairs at whitehall were much more impressive!

Anyway, I went home after that and then worked on my homework and tried to get some dinner, but it was closed, so I had some easy mac instead. Now, I have to go to bed, so Goodnight all. Posts coming in the future!

Physics Pow-wow

I worked all day yesterday on my Essay and some other homework, so I feel like I'm pretty well on top of it all for this weekend. That will be a relief! Amy and I are planning to watch another movie for one of her classes again, then I'll get the one I need to watch later and we'll watch that one. Then... I'll cancel the subscription. You can watch movies on the Wii if you go to netflix.com through that and login there. Its pretty cool and you guys should check out the selection tonight if you want to watch a movie or something. Anyway, tomorrow we are planning to do homework in the morning, and then go to the National Mall in the afternoon to go to the National Air and Space Museum. After that in the evening, we are going to watch Despicable me at the theater at her college.

I went to a Physics Society meeting on Wednesday. That one kid that I say studying in the lounge was there, along with my teacher, the other 2 teachers and others that I had seen. We had pizza and they talked about some different activities that we could do. Going around to talk to kids about science. There is this big festival of Science related events going on all around DC from 10/10-10/24. There is going to be this big extravaganza all over the mall with science booths on the 23rd and 24th of this month, and they were looking for people to work at it, but I think I'd rather look around. Anyway, they also talked about buying this thing to sense low frequency waves so they can listen to outer space, and they needed people to put that together when they buy it.

Anyway, thats all I've been up to lately.

More random test scores.

I got my second calculus test back and got a 93.5 on it. I thought it was really hard and that I didn't answer the questions very well, but he gave me the points, so I won't argue. Also, I got a 96 on my Music test. I would write some more, but there isn't really much to say. I've been studying and wishing I was with Amy for a couple of days now... I get to go to Georgetown tomorrow though:) There is just so much homework. I think I'll be a slacker next semester and take 15 credits if I can.

Catchup 2

Ok, so I didn't finish it yesterday, because as some of you know I tried to test out a different operating system, and it didn't go so smoothly:S So, as I got home from Georgetown, the internet wouldn't work, but I got it to work today.

The rest of my week was fairly average, but I sat with this guy named Tom at dinner on Tuesday. He seemed pretty nice and was quite talkative. He is a senior from New Jersey. We exchanged cell phone numbers, and I met him and his suite mate at lunch on Thursday.

On wednesday, Amy walked up to American, instead of me going to Georgetown like usual, because the American vs. Georgetown soccer game was here at 3. We watched it, and it was a pretty good game. Georgetown was leading 1-0 by the time we got there(I had Calculus right before that, so we were a little late) and They took an even greater lead with 2-0. American scored 1 time in the first half, so it was 2-1 at halftime. After halftime, We scored again, and then it was tied, but Georgetown secured the win with 8 or so minutes left to play. It was a great game overall, though it looked like We were going to get crushed. After the game, we ate some dinner and worked on homework til it got somewhat late, then I walked Amy home a ways.

On Thursday, I had a lab that was all messed up. The lab was written wrong first of all, so that we couldn't do it correctly if we followed the procedure. Anyway, I was doing it right off the bat, but then David (the lab manager guy) corrected me. So, we did the lab and all of the calculations the wrong way, and then, I asked about one of the questions which wouldn't work, since we did the lab the wrong way, so we redid the lab with only an hour at the end of class as a group and he sent us the data, so we could do the calculations.

After the lab, I had American Society, and then I met Tom and Stephen for lunch. They took a lot longer to eat than I usually do, but it was good to talk to some people at lunch. Later that day, I met Jeff to look over some Physics. He is this really smart Japanese guy, so I was surprised that he wanted my help. Anyway, we worked on the homework problems that we had had trouble with, and then I went to bed.

I went to all my classes Friday, and then went to Georgetown to see Amy. We got a grab and go (that's the only way we can eat together with her meal plan) and the guy offered her another sandwich. He said she could have it for tomorrow, but it was just perfect, and I ate it. They don't have grab and gos on the weekend, so he had to get rid of the left over wraps.

Saturday was full of studying at Georgetown. We studied in the new Business building at some nice tables they had. There was a football game taking place while we were studying, so we could hear whenever Georgetown did something good, even though it was quite a ways away. We went to watch a movie which we thought would be Despicable Me, but we were mistaken, and it was Dinner for Schmucks. We didn't have to pay, and it was in an auditorium in the Intercultural Center (ICC).

On sunday, I did some homework, and then met Amy at Georgetown. We went to church again at the Community of Christ, and then hung around afterward and talked a while. I talked to some guy that is/was an engineer, and he said that the basic difference between engineers and physicists is the fact that the engineers can learn something that doesn't make sense, apply it, and build something, where as the physicist spends years and years trying to understand some complex thing that we may never understand. Amy talked to Mary, who knew the Elefsons from Graceland, and said that once she had Thanksgiving dinner at their farm, because she was far from home while at college. Mary said that it was the best THanksgiving she had ever had! She knew Alice the best I think. She is around 80 now. We also talked to Wade Wallace's mother and she knew the Elefsons also. Small world huh? (For those who don't know, my grandma Sacry's maiden name was Elefson)

Wade Wallace took us out to lunch after church. It was so strange to ride in a car once again. That was the 1st time I've ridden in a car since August 26th. He showed us around the NW part of town and showed us a bit of the National Cathedral. It is very huge and can be seen from almost everywhere in DC. We ate at Tenleytown, at a place right across from the Metro stop, so I had seen it many times before, but it is too expensive for me to really eat there. They had Thai food and it was very delicious. He also drove us back to Georgetown a way we hadn't gone before, and it was downhill all the way. It didn't look to be any faster than the normal way down Massachusetts and then Wisconsin to 37th, but it was nice to see more of the town. He told us of his brother that was a paparazzi and had been to Georgetown to get pictures of the very rich prince of Spain. That was cool.

Amy and I studied a lot and then watched a movie. We were originally going to watch Blood Diamond, which is one that we have to watch for my class, but it wasn't available online, so we watched Brokeback Mountain that Amy had to watch for her class. It was a very interesting movie, and was quite sad. I signed up for the free trial of Net Flix by the way. Blood Diamond is being sent to me, and we will watch it this weekend. After the movie, I walked home once again, and went to bed as soon as I took off my heavy backpack.

Today, I have to go to another Mall, so that is what I'll be upto for most of the day. I ran this morning, and will try to keep running, because I have been a lazy bum for quite a while. I WILL NOT take the 15 pounds!

Catch-up attempt 1

I left off at the Kennedy Center for all practical purposes. Anyway the performance, "Shear Madness" was somewhat of an improv play. It took place at the Shear Madness hair salon in Georgetown. There were some people in the salon while someone else in an upstairs apartment was murdered. It was the job of the audience to ask questions and figure out who killed the lady upstairs. The characters involved were 2 salon stylists, and 4 other people.

On Sunday, I went down to Georgetown to study with Amy, since we didn't do much homework at all on the day of our date. We worked on homework for quite a while, but then I had to go back up to AMerican to watch a video called, "City of Joy" for my Global Majority class. It was a really good movie that basically just showed the overall scene in India which was our topic for the following Tuesday. It just started to rain as I was leaving Georgetown, so I got soaked. I talked to my family on my walk back to American.

On monday, I did more homework as best I could and then went to Sociology. The class itself is really fun, and the readings are interesting, but I'm kinda confused as to the concepts and also the big assignment kinda scares me. She doesn't mark down from an A, she "marks up from a C." Anyway, right after that class, I got on the shuttle to go to the metro. But, as I read through the project guidelines once again before starting the project, I realized that I first needed to do some back ground information on the mall that I was to attend. Here is the basic Idea of the project. We have to go to 2 different malls and do research in 6 different areas to get an overall idea about the malls and our society in general. I went to the Pentagon City mall, formerly entitled the Fashion Center Mall, which is located right off the Metro. The mall was really cool compared to all of the ones I have seen in Montana. Everything was white, and there were big glass windows on the ceiling. The railings were golden as were other borders around the mall. It had tons of clothing stores, imagine that, and not all of the other categories. I had to look at 10 different ads around the mall and talk about the body positions, apparent social status, and overall impression of the ad. I also went to a card store, and to Gamestop, and Macy's. It was a fancy, pretty rich people's mall with an Apple store, and lots of top notch clothing stores that I had never before heard of.

Off to church, but I'll finish the update today.

Some test scores.

I took a test online in American Society, so it just gave me my grade and told me which questions were missed. I got an 84 on that test. On my Global Majority from last week, I got a 95, and for my Physics, I got a 99%!!! Wahoo! Anyway, it was actually only a 95, but with the extra homework problems I did, it brought it up to a 99:)

I just thought I would let everyone know, but I have to go now and work some more.

Amy and I together for 1 year

Our 1 year anniversary was on Saturday, October 2nd, so I planned ahead a bit and took her on a fun date, or series of things rather.

Here is the url to some pictures of this day:)
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1227682962&v=wall&story_fbid=164075930272260&ref=notif¬if_t=like#!/album.php?aid=92004&id=1313910014

First, I walked down to Georgetown and it was nice outside. This was somewhat surprising and very welcome, because it had rained for 2 whole days Wednesday and Thursday before the date. Today it was very cold, like probably 45 or 50 and windy, so I'm still not sure how we got so lucky. Anyway, I arrived down there at about 9:10 and she had some presents for me. The first one was a big poofy one, and it said "No more Brrr..." I had told my mom and Amy about my cold bed. I only had one blanket, so that is why she gave me a blanket. It was the most unperfect timing though, because my mom sent me one right before, but 3 blankets will feel very nice! Thank You, Amy, and Mom! Then, I opened some poptarts, labeled"yummy," that were not the best best best kind, but they were up there. They were chocolate chip cookie dough I believe. Then, Amy one upped herself and gave me the best best best kind:) On the wrapping paper it said, "Scrummdiddlyumptious" She gave me a bigger box of Chocolate Fudge poptarts. Then, I knew there would be nothing else, because that would just be too much... I was wrong:) Amy then gave me a small package labeled, "Save the best for last." I knew from the size of the box and the fact that I had told her about wanting them sometime earlier that they were buckyballs (216 little sphere neodymium magnets that can be shaped a bunch of ways). After that, we went to the lunchroom and she brought out a bagel for me. They are really good bagels and Amy puts strawberry cream cheese on them.

After breakfast, we walked across the bridge to Rosslyn and then took the Metro up to Cleveland Park. I was taking her to the zoo, but I didn't want to get off at the Adams-Morgan Zoo stop, so I instead took her to the Cleveland Park stop which is about the same distance away. The skies were still perfectly clear, so the zoo trip was quite nice. We went on the Asian trail and saw several animals. Then, we say the elephants. They were much cooler that the rest of the animals we had seen or would see. The elephants had some branches thrown to them from outside, and they would pick up the branch with their trunk, and step on the other half of it to rip it in half. Then they would eat it bit by bit. We walked a while and saw some more animals outside, and then stopped to get some lunch. The food was really good, but some pesky bees kept trying to sample our soda. It just added another element to the dining experience I guess:) We then went to see the small animal place which had the little monkeys and such, and then we went to the bird place. There was a really creepy owl that had huge eyes. I think it was called a spectacled Owl or something like that. We also went to the Reptile building and then to this rain forest one. Amy was a little freaked out by some of the snakes, and I was too to some extent, but oh well, they are just creepy things. The rain forest one was really cool and had a place where the animals were just running around wild. There were only small animals, but there was a cool spoonbill that had pink feathers and was friendly. A dad was holding a baby and the baby reached towards the spoonbill and it reached out too and bit the baby's hand. It didn't get hurt very much, but the mom didn't let the baby reach out again...

After the zoo, we sat up on the hill behind the zoo sign and talked for a while and then walked over to this restaurant called "Himalayan Heritage." Ok, so this whole day, I was not telling Amy what we were going to do or where were were going, so every thing was a surprise to some degree, but she figured out the zoo, because there was a sign as we were coming out of the Metro. Anyway, the restaurant was in Adams-Morgan and had a small street entrance. There tons of restaurants around that area, but I had looked this one up ahead of time and we went there. The inside was decorated nicely with Indian stuff and we sat at a table next to the window. The waiter came out and gave us some weird thing like rice excepted popcorn style, so it was a little crunchy. There were also some green beans and red onion bits and other spices. Then we ordered a smoothie and 2 different chicken meals. One was very good, like the same taste as the Garbonzo Beans Smita made, except just a sauce and chicken to put over some really good rice. The other dish was just barbecued Chicken with onions and peppers. It was pretty good too, but not really Indian cuisine. The food was really good! After that we went to a theater performance at the Kennedy Center called Shear Madness. IT was really good, but I have to go to bed, so I'll tell about it some other time.

I'm sorry this is so late, but I've been really busy.

Goodnight.

After the Tests.

So, as you may have read previous to this post, I had 3 tests today. They were much harder in my head before I took them. Actually, they weren't too bad at all. I think I should have gotten a 75% at worst on my Physics test, an 83% at worst on my Global majority test, and a 96% at worst on my Understanding Music test. The rest of the day was mostly Studying for the test that I hadn't taken yet and working on my concert review. I went to a Chamber Orchestra concert by the way, on sunday. It was a pretty good performance, but I had to take notes throughout and so I couldn't really just enjoy the music. It was in a Catholic Church building that looked pretty fancy, similar to the Methodist Church that we went to, except for a lot more plain. That was about all my day, except for attempting some calculus, and eating some dinner.

The tests are coming.

Hi, this is Brenda.
Travis is super busy today, so I thought I'd help him out. It's another hard time for him because he has 2 or 3 big tests on Tuesday and not enough time to study and several problems that have stumped him. It's frustrating when your calc or physics problems don't work out and you don't know who to turn to!

Saturday he and Amy had some fun, but,of course, that used up studying time and Sunday was stressful.(It was still worth it though said by Travis) Here's some from an email about the soccer game Saturday.

The Soccer Game today against Bucknell was pretty intense. We scored 2 goals in the first half. Then, in the second half, a kid from my floor that I've talked to a little scored another one: ) He is a Freshman also and starts on their team. Amy and I always like to watch him... Anyway, he scored from about 30 yards out and it was pretty awesome. Then, since it was pretty rough as usual, one of our guys kept fighting for the ball, and knocking one of theirs over. A couple seconds later, that guy grabbed our guy around the neck like with his elbow (imagine giving a noogie) and threw him to the ground. A tiny brawl broke out and then Everyone was where it happened and the refs were discussing it. Everyone in the crowd was quite upset and there was some name calling as you could imagine. Anyway, it was really fun, and we won 3-1.

Keep up the good work, Travis. We are all rooting for you.
Love, Mom

One other funny thing that happened today was at Lunch when Amy came over. We were eating in the TDR, and Amy was talking about the Hoya Blue club she was in. She was thinking about things to put on her resume, and she said that being on a spirit club might not be to helpful. She said, "I want to join a more substantial club where I could maybe learn something, maybe College Democrats." I Said, "From Democrats?!?" I'm just kidding, but it was funny at the time:)

I have to go to bed earlyish so I can get ready for those tests.

Bye, All.
