Rally to Restore "Sanity"

Last night was pretty late for me and for Charlie, but he woke up early to go to the Rally. He was out of here by 7:00 which is by far the earliest he has gotten up on a saturday. He met some more of his friends and walked to the Metro Station to get on when it opened.

Jim, Amy, and myself however decided that we would walk and avoid all of the crowds... Yeah right! Anyway, I got up at about 8 and walked down to Georgetown to meet Amy and Jim who had walked across the Key Bridge from Rosslyn. They ate breakfast, and I watched some lacrosse until they finished. I had already eaten some fruit by the way, but Amy got me a bagel:) Lacrosse was pretty interesting, since I had never actually seen it played before, but it didn't seem all that exciting from the sidelines, and it was girls lacrosse. So anyway, right after that, we started walking to the rally. We had some interesting conversations and arrived at the scene at about 11:20. There were so many people even before then that had been walking on the sidewalks too. Then a little later when we were past the monument about equidistant from the monument and the Capitol Building, we stopped. It wasn't so much a voluntary stop as it was a stop, because the masses of people had become too dense that one couldn't move further. Previous to this, we had been wading through the people inch by inch, but then, as we were right next to the first aid tent, we stopped. This was somewhat unfortunate, because some people claimed to have been injured and we were often asked to step aside to make room for them. There was the main stage, and them 5 "Jumbotrons" which were huge screens that had speakers beside them so everyone could feel like they were closer. We were about in the middle of the group by the time it started, and being by the last jumbotron on the left, I have no clue how the people behind us could see anything at all. We got pretty lucky, as we could hardly see the jumbotron that was in front of us.

Ok, so anyway, enough of the crowd description for the moment. The show started with a preformance by the "Roots." I had never heard of them, and they were ok and got the crowd going pretty well. After that, to two main hosts from Myth Busters came out and had us do the wave. It was realy cool looking, but at the moment, I can't find a good video of it from the cameras in the front. A little later after Stephen Colbert did a parody of the Chilean miners, as he came on stage from his "fear bunker" and emerged on the stage in one of the capsuls used to rescue the Miners. Then they had this performance. It was really cool to hear songs that I had actually heard of before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoIjLFmit84 Then went on to have some more performaces by musicians and then they had the reasonableness awards and the fear awards. Anyway, there were some video montages and they were pretty cool/somewhat funny. It was a pretty crazy experience and I had never seen famous people before. Actually I didn't see them, but if the jumbotron had been moved over a tiny bit, I could have seen them, because I could see the edge of the stage.

We had a crazy time getting away from there too, and the streets were packed for what seemed probably a mile or so. We were eventually able to move again though after 20 minutes or so mucking through the crowds. I will definitely remember this for a long time. After the standing for hours and hours and walking for a long way, our feet were so sore. We walked all the way to Union Station, so we could hopefully avoid some crowds, but we still had to wait until the second trian came before we could get on. We searched out the bathrooms in the union station and there were huge lines, but we eventually made it. After this, we headed to American University to get dinner and rest our feet a while. Jim left to go back to his Hotel to do some homework before leaving today in the early morning. After that Amy and I did some homework and then she went home and we went to bed.

There are lots more videos about the rally if you want to look for them. There were also lots and lots of signs.

Here are some that I found.

Jim comes to Town.

I would be sleeping right now, but since it is close to Halloween and everyone is dressed up and noisy in the hall way, I thought I should at least do something productive while I can't sleep.

The week since I last wrote was normal and I just did homework, saw Amy, and saw Jim along with tens of thousands of other people.

On Friday night, Amy and I met Jim at Adams Morgan, because we thought his friends would be around there. His plane was delayed and so we didn't meet him until about 9. There were other travel troubles for him too. Apparently someone had attempted suicide, and I imagine they succeeded. He was on the Metro and then as he was about to transfer to the red line, there was another train on the other side and officers were looking under each car. They shut down the metro and when he was leaving he saw the stretcher being brought in for the person to be carried out. He was also delayed by a veteran that he started to talk to and tried to help without giving him money, like helping him look for a place to stay for the night. He wasn't homeless, but he came for some surgery at the Veteran's hospital in DC, and they had rescheduled him without previously telling him, so he was temporarily stranded. The veteran started to leave, but didn't have enough money to get a place at the hostile, so Jim gave him some money. Then, after the subway incident, he found out that the money he had given the man would have been just the amount for his taxi ride.

We met him at Adams Morgan, because there were some good restaurants there and some people he knew were going to meet us there. They never showed up, but we had a good dinner at an Indian restaurant called Little India. We caught up with him a while and heard about his book, which will be for sale by the end of November or the beginning of December. It sounds like it should be pretty good. Anyway, I just spent a long time looking it up and now I'm tired and will have to tell about the "Rally to Restore Sanity" later, though it was quite the experience.

Goodnight!

Changes...

So, to preface the events of today, I will start with yesterday. While I was studying at Georgetown, I got a text from Tyler saying he was going to be moving out to give us some more room or something. I actually preferred the triple, because it saves me 2600 dollars per year. At any rate, after I came home from Georgetown, I arrived at a room that seemed empty. He always had the most stuff, since he is form Boston, so his part of the room was filled up more than Charlie and my side. He also had posters on the walls, but by the time I got back, there was nothing of his left. Only an empty be and some cupboards were still there as I arrived. The TV was gone too, which kinda stunk, because Charlie has a DVD player that he bought here, also his N64. I was OK with the move as long as I wouldn't have to pay for the double rate for a while. Tyler moved in with one of his friends that was in a single. Also, last night, I was really tired and I went the bathroom and noticed that they had little containers under the dividers of the toilet stalls. I thought it was strange, but didn't pay much attention to it.

I slept for quite a while and then woke up and worked on my homework for lots of hours. In the morning, I went the bathroom and a girl went in right before me. This wasn't too unusual since they often used our bathroom, but then she let me in on the secret that they had changed the bathrooms. Then, she said that they switched the bathrooms. The bathrooms are identical, so at mid term they switch them so everyone will have to walk the same amount. The halls are shaped kinda like a an H with the bar connecting each side being the elevator area and the community room. Anyway, on the inside of each outer part of the H, there is a bathroom. The guys bathroom was on my side of the H, but now I have to walk through the middle portion to get to the guys bathroom. That would explain the little containers by each stall I noticed the night earlier.

Besides this today was rather boring, but I got a lot done, because my only class was canceled today since my teacher's father had some clot that could potentially be fatal. She stayed in the hospital with him. Also, Amy stayed at Georgetown today, so I only had homework to do the whole day. I also did my I'm being to lazy routine, so I skipped breakfast and lunch, since I got up pretty late. I then did 1000 jumping jacks, 300 push-ups, 300 sit-ups, 200 lunges, 370 water bottle curls, and 310 seconds worth of holding my feet close to the ground but off of it to keep my stomach muscles tightened. All of these exercises were over the whole course of the day, so it wasn't too much, though I did pretty tired by the end.

Charlie stayed in the room almost all day today, which was unusual for him as far as I know, but anyway, that's about all that happened.

I also had a little argument with the Housing and Dining programs people to allow our room status to stay triple, but in the end we got it figured out. We will leave the furniture in the room and have to be ready for someone to move in at any time, but that should be OK.

Goodnight! I'm going to bed early today:)

Week in Review.

Ok, so the last time I posted anything was on the 19th. Not many major things have happened since that day, but several things to note have taken place.

Wednesday I walked down to Georgetown to go to Chi Alpha with Amy. We worked on homework for a long time before it and got some Subway too.

Thursday was a normal thursday too, and the lab we did this day actually worked well. It was one regarding the conservation of linear momentum. The data didn't come out all that well as we had large error, but the setup was straight forward and we finished most of the calculations in class. Jeff Gu, an Asian kid was in our group this time since his partner was gone. He was a lot better to work with than Jordan. Jordan is fine to work with, but thinks too much about some things and wastes time as a result. Jeff has a better knowledge of the ideas it seems. Later that day, I went to get some help on my Calculus and then went to the Library to work with Jeff on some of the Physics homework. We both had already finished the required amount, but we then did a little extra, as much as we could anyway. He was dressed up even in our lab class with a tux type concert outfit. He said he was going to play his violin at the Kennedy center in a benefit orchestra for children that can't afford instruments of their own. His concert was at 6, after 2 hours of practicing. Judging from that, I would say that he is pretty awesome at Violin. Possibly as good as Amy:)

Friday was pretty busy and good. I went to physics class and he did the centripetal fire experiment. It turns our that as the platform spins, the air is pushed to the outside and as a result, there is greater air pressure on the outside than the inside and the flame is pushed to the inside. Following physics class, I worked on my discussion paper for Global Majority for several hours, because to make up for the movies that we had watched in that class, we didn't have class on this Friday. The rest of the classes were OK, but since this week was "An All-American Weekend" (Family weekend) there were some parents that sat in on our Understanding Music class. I'm not sure if that was the reason, but the professor seemed to talk much faster and took responses from us less than ever before. I really hope he isn't like that for the rest of the time.

After classes, I walked down to Georgetown and talked to Darcy a little. She was working on the shelter at the Silver Tower Park in Whitehall. We were talking about doing that when Amy and I were in charge of the Interact club, but it never got going. Anyway, I had been carrying a grab and go lunch all the way down there to eat with Amy for dinner. Oh, there was something amusing that took place as I was getting the lunch. So, I had went to the TDR for my lunch, and was then going to go to get a grab and go for dinner. I grabbed 2 bananas from the TDR and carried them to the Box lunch area. The box lunches come with a sandwich, wrap, or salad, a drink, and 3 sides. As I walked up there, I realized that they also had bananas as sides there. It must have looked really suspicious, because I grabbed 3 more sides. Ok, so I was at Georgetown, and I met Amy and we studied for a while and then went to watch the Georgetown's Children's Theater perform the Velveteen Rabbit. They prepare a play for about half a semester and then they travel around performing the play at various childrens hospitals and schools for the rest of the semester. The play was pretty good, but very children oriented as promised. They had the audience do things such as sing happy birthday to the little boy, hug someone to make them feel better (by wrapping their arms around themselves), show their best smiles, and frowns, and some other things. This was the play for which Amy made the cool poster. I saved some programs:) After this, I went home and went to bed, because tomorrow morning would be early!

Saturday morning, I got up, got ready, and went to the Community of Christ garage sale. The proceeds went to some homeless organization or something. Anyway, I went over there early in the morning and helped them set up the tables and move books and such. The tables were very heavy and we had to carry them all the way around the church. After that, we had to carry 7 rows of pews worth of boxes of books of varying sizes and shapes and colors and backings. (hard or soft backed) Anyway, Amy came too and we looked around the place and carried things to and fro and bought several items.

After this, we went to the new building at American, possibly business or foreign relations or something, and studied for a couple of hours. We then had some lunch and got ready to go to the Springfield Mall. It looked really cool online and had over one million square feet of retail space. We rode the shuttle to Tenleytown and then rode the Metro to the Metro Center and then transferred to the Blue line and took it all the way to the end past Arlington National Cemetery and past the Pentagon and past Reagan International Airport. It took us about 40 minutes of straight travel on the blue line, but then we were finally there. We got out and found a large parking center that was at the end of the Metro for commuters. We then walked about half of a mile over to the mall. We went into Macy's and looked for my coat. (The reason we went to this mall was to pick up our coats that had been a graduation present.) I tried on several and eventually found one that fit pretty well, but still has a bit of growing into room and is a zip up black wool one. Amy tried on some at Macy's too, but couldn't find the right one. We walked around the mall a while and then over to the JC Penney's to look for some more coats. Amy found a good one there that was purple, but there was also a gray one that was the same style, so she got that one.

Amy's mom was going to pay for them, so we called her up when we were at the checking out to get the card information. The cashier then put it in and we went to get my coat from Macy's. Amy had written the information on the JC Penney's receipt and we just gave that to check out lady. She was hispanic and tried to help us, but she was inputting the information to what looked to us to be a Macy's card spot on the computer. Anyway, it didn't work. Then, we went in search of a more competent check-out lady. We found one, but she also thought it was a bit more suspicious to have the card information of someone from Montana written on a receipt. We tried to pay for it explaining that it was Amy's mom, but I don't think they believed us... After thinking about it a bit, I don't think I would have believed us either, since she hadn't seen us get the information from Sue on the phone.

We bought some good Chinese food at a place called Sarku Japan. There were spanish speakers working there. I guess it could have been Japanese food, but that wouldn't have been as fun to explain. We also got a milkshake that was delicious! It was strawberry and had some extra cherry flavors floating around in there. We walked back to the Metro station as it was getting kinda late, then we finally made it back to American at 8. We watched Blood Diamond, one of those movies for Global Majority, and then Amy went home.

Sunday, I went to church and then walked down to Georgetown. There were some leftover baked goods from the garage sale, so I had some cookies and this strange bar. It had marshmallows and fudge encasing them. It was super amazing! We worked on homework for a while, then Josiah called me back. (I had called several people on my walk down to Georgetown from Church on Massachusetts Ave.) We then went to a costume sale that the drama department was having. There was a really cool robe that was very sturdy, but I put it back on the rack and it got taken right away because it was so awesome! Amy got this fun leprechaun costume and some peach colored pants for Halloween. People from Georgetown can go trick or treating down Embassy Row. I would have gone too, but I have classes until 4:50 on Friday, and it ends at 5. I got a red shirt though in case we dress up just to walk around on Saturday evening with Jim (Amy's brother that will be here). We did some more homework, then had a wonderful dinner of Ben and Jerry's Ice cream, a sub, and some honey bbq fritos:) We studied even more and then I walked home and talked to my Sacry grandparents. It was really good to hear from them too:)

Well, its late, that's all I did, and I'm going to bed. Enjoy!

Ahh! Why do these things need titles? I have no imagination!

So, yesterday and today have been pretty boring. I did a lot of exercise yesterday and worked on homework a lot. I did, pushups, sit ups, lunges, jumping jacks, and glass 32 oz. water bottle curls. Today, as I woke I felt the aftermath of my physical activity from the previous day! I only ate lunch yesterday, because lately I have been feeling lazy and I noticed a bit of my Freshman 15 coming on, so I had to shut it down. Thats the reason for the exercise and lack of food. At lunch, I ate some good food and found in my foraging for food to take to my dorm, a very large apple. They had the fruit bins filled with them, a new kind I hadn't seen here before. The apple was probably 4.5 inches in diameter.

Today, I woke up, got ready, and ate that apple. It was so big and filled me up, even after not having eaten since 2 the previous afternoon. Physics was pretty fun as usual and he did a demonstration and some examples on the board. There was this setup that we tried at the end of class that had to candles with glass protecting them from the wind. The idea was to spin them, as they were on opposite sides of a rotating stick kinda like this from the top view. O---.---O, except the pivoting point was centered. Anyway, the glass protectors were about 6 inches long and he only had a bic lighter. So he tried to light it, but his hands were too big and it eventually burned out. Then, he tried again, several times, because the flame was long and he thought he could get it. IT didn't work. Then, he looked in the back room to find the torch so he could light it that way, but it wasn't there. I said this previously, but he heard it when another girl said it. Just roll up a piece of paper , light it, and then light the candles with it... Brilliant right? Well anyway, he tried this, but the roll of paper wasn't that small, so it started on fire rather quickly. He first tried to stick the paper down in it, but the flames (2 or 3 inches) were coming back up towards his hands, so then he flipped it over and held the paper up into the glass container. To conclude this story, I'll say that it didn't ever light and we'll do it on Friday. The smoke alarms didn't go off, so we were safe, but it smelled quite smoky:) He is a really funny guy, and he is really smart! Here is his home page for American University.

http://nw08.american.edu/~pjohnson/

I hope the link works when I post this.

The rest of my day was pretty boring except for my run, which was long and tiring. I also tried out the "Tavern" for dinner today. It is like the fast food place that takes your meal plan. THere are 2 other places too, but I didn't know about them until I went looking for the Tavern. It has pizza and fries and chicken strips and stuff like that. I got a turkey sandwich that had chopped turkey, peppers, and onions all cooked and then some cheese on top. It was pretty good, but a little dry, so the next time I go over there I think I'll get some mayonnaise. The meal came with a drink and fries, but it said it only cost 4.75, so it isn't a good deal compared to the normal price of the food in the TDR. Ok, so I had never gone over there before and I didn't know what to do but you just order, then take your 2 receipts over to the cooks, hand them one of them, they make it, then you give them your other and they give you the food. There were about 10-15 people waiting about the time I was there, but it is good in general, because it is open much later than the normal dining room. I'll keep that in mind for later.

Thats all the news I have for everyone. Good Bye!

Comments/emails?

I know the basic nature of a blog is for people to ramble on and on about the small variances in their lives or the deeper meanings they find within everyday life, but I rather do it to inform the rest of the word about whats going on with me. I know everyone else if busy with their own lives, but it would still be nice to get some comments or emails regarding what I've done. I know its not really noble or worthy of praise, but just so I could get connected to the outside world a little, ya know? Anyway, I'd love it if someone showed me that this entire use of time wasn't in vain.

Thanks, Travis

Air and Space Museum and more!

This weekend started pretty well for me, because I didn't have classes on Thursday or Friday so I got a lot of homework done. Amy however wasn't so luck, because she had school all of those days. She has a lot of homework, but is really good at getting it done, it seems. Anyway, Amy came over friday afternoon and we ate lunch and then worked on homework in my room for a long time. We had some of the Mountain House freeze dried stuff that we got when we were in Salt Lake. The Beef Straganof was much better than the pasta primavera that we tried while in DC. IT was really good, and it even had mushrooms in it. (Shhh! Don't tell Amy) After dinner, we watched As Good as it Gets, which was a good movie about a cranky OCD guy that makes friends and learns how to live better.

Saturday morning we both worked on our homework for a while at our separate campuses and then I went down to Georgetown at about noon or so. Before that though, I had breakfast for the second time at TDR and had a delicious omelet with tomatoes, peppers, ham, bacon, and cheese. They made it differently than I have seen before, because they put all of the ingredients on the griddle first and then warmed them up and chopped them. After a little while they used a ladle to pour some eggs on the mixture. They contained the eggs with two spatulas and then shaped it as a square. After it cooked for a while, he put some shredded cheese on it and wrapped it up like a burrito.

Amy and I worked on homework a while after I got there, and then we went to the National Air and Space Museum. It was really cool. The building itself is really huge and has 2 main floors. There was a really cool little kids place talking about air and pressure and aerodynamics and such! I really liked it even though it was for little children. They had this one demonstration that had a tube and you could turn on a vacuum to pump the air out. There was a feather inside, so you could see how different it fell without air. There was also a cool exhibit about seeing things on earth and it showed some areal photos and other equipment used for that. The coolest thing by far in that place was an area watched by an infrared camera. The picture was then put up on the screen, so you could see the relative temperatures of your body, or anything in the way of the camera. My nose was quite blue, and my hands were red. Blue was cold, and red was hot. If I rubbed them together quickly, my hands could get even redder. Amy tried to lift up her arm and her armpits were very red. It was cool to experiment with the colors and temperatures of different things. Amy took some pictures of this and they will be on facebook when she posts them, under some new album of hers. The next cool exhibit we saw was one that had satellite images of earth and the moon and different plants and the sun. They were taken pretty close and were very good resolution and blown up pretty large. They were awesome!!! The sun taken by ultraviolet looks really cool.

We started to walk home and then found this guy preaching outside the Museum. He had a big booth and was talking loudly over some speakers. Then there were some atheists that were protesting and kinda making fun of them and one of the atheists went over to the booth and started yelling at them. They were kinda scared and told him to, "Back away in the name of God!" He didn't and no one got hurt, but he argued for a long time and he had to yell to try to be heard over the microphones. Then they let him use a microphone for a little while, but took it away after he started yelling again. It was a pretty intense conversation, but was really interesting and fun to watch.

We finally went back to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station and they got off at the Rosslyn one. We looked around the little mall that is by the metro station and bought some ice cream to share. Then, as we were leaving, we found the store that we were looking for. We had come there in search of a store to buy some supper and a little candy for Despicable Me. We bought some Ravioli some guava wafer cookies. It was a really weird flavor and I had never heard of them before. They tasted pretty good though. We also bought a pack of licorice and a guava nectar drink that was on sale for 37 cents.

We walked back over to Georgetown, worked on homework for a while, ate the dinner, and then went to the movie. It didn't start for a little while, but then they thought they had fixed it so they let it run without the sound for 10 minutes. It was about half an hour late by the time someone in the audience, who happened to be a tech guy from a different part of georgetown, finally fixed the sound. We watched the movie, and I liked it a lot. We worked on homework for a long time after that and I walked over to Rosslyn once more. The drunks were out with a vengeance that night, and there were crazy loud obnoxious people everywhere! One threw up on the metro and then made it off in time to throw up a bunch more on the platform... Blech!

Sunday was pretty good, and I slept in til 9:45... A record for me! I got ready and then walked over to meet Amy for church. We went to church and then escaped as soon as possible so we could get some work done in the afternoon. We had a delicious Meatball Marinara Subway sandwich with chipotle sauce. It is really good and you should try it!!! With that tough, I expended the last of my subway card money:S Oh well. We went to the play after sitting in the library in the hot window room. The play was Arsenic and Old Lace, the same one that Amy during her senior year, so it was fun to see it again. Harry, someone Amy had met during orientation, and I had met after that was Officer O'Hara. He did a great job, and it was a really fun play to watch! I do like watching plays that cast people I know, but this was really fun too! They probably have more acting skills than the Whitehall group, but I didn't think it was nearly as funny. The set was set up differently though, because the audience sat in a rectangle around the table. At each corner was a different entrance. On one corner was the main door, another the window with window seat to hold bodies in, the kitchen was another, and the last was the small set of stairs that Teddy runs up yelling "Charge!!!!!!" The set and clothing were much more fancy, but the stairs at whitehall were much more impressive!

Anyway, I went home after that and then worked on my homework and tried to get some dinner, but it was closed, so I had some easy mac instead. Now, I have to go to bed, so Goodnight all. Posts coming in the future!

Physics Pow-wow

I worked all day yesterday on my Essay and some other homework, so I feel like I'm pretty well on top of it all for this weekend. That will be a relief! Amy and I are planning to watch another movie for one of her classes again, then I'll get the one I need to watch later and we'll watch that one. Then... I'll cancel the subscription. You can watch movies on the Wii if you go to netflix.com through that and login there. Its pretty cool and you guys should check out the selection tonight if you want to watch a movie or something. Anyway, tomorrow we are planning to do homework in the morning, and then go to the National Mall in the afternoon to go to the National Air and Space Museum. After that in the evening, we are going to watch Despicable me at the theater at her college.

I went to a Physics Society meeting on Wednesday. That one kid that I say studying in the lounge was there, along with my teacher, the other 2 teachers and others that I had seen. We had pizza and they talked about some different activities that we could do. Going around to talk to kids about science. There is this big festival of Science related events going on all around DC from 10/10-10/24. There is going to be this big extravaganza all over the mall with science booths on the 23rd and 24th of this month, and they were looking for people to work at it, but I think I'd rather look around. Anyway, they also talked about buying this thing to sense low frequency waves so they can listen to outer space, and they needed people to put that together when they buy it.

Anyway, thats all I've been up to lately.

More random test scores.

I got my second calculus test back and got a 93.5 on it. I thought it was really hard and that I didn't answer the questions very well, but he gave me the points, so I won't argue. Also, I got a 96 on my Music test. I would write some more, but there isn't really much to say. I've been studying and wishing I was with Amy for a couple of days now... I get to go to Georgetown tomorrow though:) There is just so much homework. I think I'll be a slacker next semester and take 15 credits if I can.

Catchup 2

Ok, so I didn't finish it yesterday, because as some of you know I tried to test out a different operating system, and it didn't go so smoothly:S So, as I got home from Georgetown, the internet wouldn't work, but I got it to work today.

The rest of my week was fairly average, but I sat with this guy named Tom at dinner on Tuesday. He seemed pretty nice and was quite talkative. He is a senior from New Jersey. We exchanged cell phone numbers, and I met him and his suite mate at lunch on Thursday.

On wednesday, Amy walked up to American, instead of me going to Georgetown like usual, because the American vs. Georgetown soccer game was here at 3. We watched it, and it was a pretty good game. Georgetown was leading 1-0 by the time we got there(I had Calculus right before that, so we were a little late) and They took an even greater lead with 2-0. American scored 1 time in the first half, so it was 2-1 at halftime. After halftime, We scored again, and then it was tied, but Georgetown secured the win with 8 or so minutes left to play. It was a great game overall, though it looked like We were going to get crushed. After the game, we ate some dinner and worked on homework til it got somewhat late, then I walked Amy home a ways.

On Thursday, I had a lab that was all messed up. The lab was written wrong first of all, so that we couldn't do it correctly if we followed the procedure. Anyway, I was doing it right off the bat, but then David (the lab manager guy) corrected me. So, we did the lab and all of the calculations the wrong way, and then, I asked about one of the questions which wouldn't work, since we did the lab the wrong way, so we redid the lab with only an hour at the end of class as a group and he sent us the data, so we could do the calculations.

After the lab, I had American Society, and then I met Tom and Stephen for lunch. They took a lot longer to eat than I usually do, but it was good to talk to some people at lunch. Later that day, I met Jeff to look over some Physics. He is this really smart Japanese guy, so I was surprised that he wanted my help. Anyway, we worked on the homework problems that we had had trouble with, and then I went to bed.

I went to all my classes Friday, and then went to Georgetown to see Amy. We got a grab and go (that's the only way we can eat together with her meal plan) and the guy offered her another sandwich. He said she could have it for tomorrow, but it was just perfect, and I ate it. They don't have grab and gos on the weekend, so he had to get rid of the left over wraps.

Saturday was full of studying at Georgetown. We studied in the new Business building at some nice tables they had. There was a football game taking place while we were studying, so we could hear whenever Georgetown did something good, even though it was quite a ways away. We went to watch a movie which we thought would be Despicable Me, but we were mistaken, and it was Dinner for Schmucks. We didn't have to pay, and it was in an auditorium in the Intercultural Center (ICC).

On sunday, I did some homework, and then met Amy at Georgetown. We went to church again at the Community of Christ, and then hung around afterward and talked a while. I talked to some guy that is/was an engineer, and he said that the basic difference between engineers and physicists is the fact that the engineers can learn something that doesn't make sense, apply it, and build something, where as the physicist spends years and years trying to understand some complex thing that we may never understand. Amy talked to Mary, who knew the Elefsons from Graceland, and said that once she had Thanksgiving dinner at their farm, because she was far from home while at college. Mary said that it was the best THanksgiving she had ever had! She knew Alice the best I think. She is around 80 now. We also talked to Wade Wallace's mother and she knew the Elefsons also. Small world huh? (For those who don't know, my grandma Sacry's maiden name was Elefson)

Wade Wallace took us out to lunch after church. It was so strange to ride in a car once again. That was the 1st time I've ridden in a car since August 26th. He showed us around the NW part of town and showed us a bit of the National Cathedral. It is very huge and can be seen from almost everywhere in DC. We ate at Tenleytown, at a place right across from the Metro stop, so I had seen it many times before, but it is too expensive for me to really eat there. They had Thai food and it was very delicious. He also drove us back to Georgetown a way we hadn't gone before, and it was downhill all the way. It didn't look to be any faster than the normal way down Massachusetts and then Wisconsin to 37th, but it was nice to see more of the town. He told us of his brother that was a paparazzi and had been to Georgetown to get pictures of the very rich prince of Spain. That was cool.

Amy and I studied a lot and then watched a movie. We were originally going to watch Blood Diamond, which is one that we have to watch for my class, but it wasn't available online, so we watched Brokeback Mountain that Amy had to watch for her class. It was a very interesting movie, and was quite sad. I signed up for the free trial of Net Flix by the way. Blood Diamond is being sent to me, and we will watch it this weekend. After the movie, I walked home once again, and went to bed as soon as I took off my heavy backpack.

Today, I have to go to another Mall, so that is what I'll be upto for most of the day. I ran this morning, and will try to keep running, because I have been a lazy bum for quite a while. I WILL NOT take the 15 pounds!

Catch-up attempt 1

I left off at the Kennedy Center for all practical purposes. Anyway the performance, "Shear Madness" was somewhat of an improv play. It took place at the Shear Madness hair salon in Georgetown. There were some people in the salon while someone else in an upstairs apartment was murdered. It was the job of the audience to ask questions and figure out who killed the lady upstairs. The characters involved were 2 salon stylists, and 4 other people.

On Sunday, I went down to Georgetown to study with Amy, since we didn't do much homework at all on the day of our date. We worked on homework for quite a while, but then I had to go back up to AMerican to watch a video called, "City of Joy" for my Global Majority class. It was a really good movie that basically just showed the overall scene in India which was our topic for the following Tuesday. It just started to rain as I was leaving Georgetown, so I got soaked. I talked to my family on my walk back to American.

On monday, I did more homework as best I could and then went to Sociology. The class itself is really fun, and the readings are interesting, but I'm kinda confused as to the concepts and also the big assignment kinda scares me. She doesn't mark down from an A, she "marks up from a C." Anyway, right after that class, I got on the shuttle to go to the metro. But, as I read through the project guidelines once again before starting the project, I realized that I first needed to do some back ground information on the mall that I was to attend. Here is the basic Idea of the project. We have to go to 2 different malls and do research in 6 different areas to get an overall idea about the malls and our society in general. I went to the Pentagon City mall, formerly entitled the Fashion Center Mall, which is located right off the Metro. The mall was really cool compared to all of the ones I have seen in Montana. Everything was white, and there were big glass windows on the ceiling. The railings were golden as were other borders around the mall. It had tons of clothing stores, imagine that, and not all of the other categories. I had to look at 10 different ads around the mall and talk about the body positions, apparent social status, and overall impression of the ad. I also went to a card store, and to Gamestop, and Macy's. It was a fancy, pretty rich people's mall with an Apple store, and lots of top notch clothing stores that I had never before heard of.

Off to church, but I'll finish the update today.

Some test scores.

I took a test online in American Society, so it just gave me my grade and told me which questions were missed. I got an 84 on that test. On my Global Majority from last week, I got a 95, and for my Physics, I got a 99%!!! Wahoo! Anyway, it was actually only a 95, but with the extra homework problems I did, it brought it up to a 99:)

I just thought I would let everyone know, but I have to go now and work some more.

Amy and I together for 1 year

Our 1 year anniversary was on Saturday, October 2nd, so I planned ahead a bit and took her on a fun date, or series of things rather.

Here is the url to some pictures of this day:)

First, I walked down to Georgetown and it was nice outside. This was somewhat surprising and very welcome, because it had rained for 2 whole days Wednesday and Thursday before the date. Today it was very cold, like probably 45 or 50 and windy, so I'm still not sure how we got so lucky. Anyway, I arrived down there at about 9:10 and she had some presents for me. The first one was a big poofy one, and it said "No more Brrr..." I had told my mom and Amy about my cold bed. I only had one blanket, so that is why she gave me a blanket. It was the most unperfect timing though, because my mom sent me one right before, but 3 blankets will feel very nice! Thank You, Amy, and Mom! Then, I opened some poptarts, labeled"yummy," that were not the best best best kind, but they were up there. They were chocolate chip cookie dough I believe. Then, Amy one upped herself and gave me the best best best kind:) On the wrapping paper it said, "Scrummdiddlyumptious" She gave me a bigger box of Chocolate Fudge poptarts. Then, I knew there would be nothing else, because that would just be too much... I was wrong:) Amy then gave me a small package labeled, "Save the best for last." I knew from the size of the box and the fact that I had told her about wanting them sometime earlier that they were buckyballs (216 little sphere neodymium magnets that can be shaped a bunch of ways). After that, we went to the lunchroom and she brought out a bagel for me. They are really good bagels and Amy puts strawberry cream cheese on them.

After breakfast, we walked across the bridge to Rosslyn and then took the Metro up to Cleveland Park. I was taking her to the zoo, but I didn't want to get off at the Adams-Morgan Zoo stop, so I instead took her to the Cleveland Park stop which is about the same distance away. The skies were still perfectly clear, so the zoo trip was quite nice. We went on the Asian trail and saw several animals. Then, we say the elephants. They were much cooler that the rest of the animals we had seen or would see. The elephants had some branches thrown to them from outside, and they would pick up the branch with their trunk, and step on the other half of it to rip it in half. Then they would eat it bit by bit. We walked a while and saw some more animals outside, and then stopped to get some lunch. The food was really good, but some pesky bees kept trying to sample our soda. It just added another element to the dining experience I guess:) We then went to see the small animal place which had the little monkeys and such, and then we went to the bird place. There was a really creepy owl that had huge eyes. I think it was called a spectacled Owl or something like that. We also went to the Reptile building and then to this rain forest one. Amy was a little freaked out by some of the snakes, and I was too to some extent, but oh well, they are just creepy things. The rain forest one was really cool and had a place where the animals were just running around wild. There were only small animals, but there was a cool spoonbill that had pink feathers and was friendly. A dad was holding a baby and the baby reached towards the spoonbill and it reached out too and bit the baby's hand. It didn't get hurt very much, but the mom didn't let the baby reach out again...

After the zoo, we sat up on the hill behind the zoo sign and talked for a while and then walked over to this restaurant called "Himalayan Heritage." Ok, so this whole day, I was not telling Amy what we were going to do or where were were going, so every thing was a surprise to some degree, but she figured out the zoo, because there was a sign as we were coming out of the Metro. Anyway, the restaurant was in Adams-Morgan and had a small street entrance. There tons of restaurants around that area, but I had looked this one up ahead of time and we went there. The inside was decorated nicely with Indian stuff and we sat at a table next to the window. The waiter came out and gave us some weird thing like rice excepted popcorn style, so it was a little crunchy. There were also some green beans and red onion bits and other spices. Then we ordered a smoothie and 2 different chicken meals. One was very good, like the same taste as the Garbonzo Beans Smita made, except just a sauce and chicken to put over some really good rice. The other dish was just barbecued Chicken with onions and peppers. It was pretty good too, but not really Indian cuisine. The food was really good! After that we went to a theater performance at the Kennedy Center called Shear Madness. IT was really good, but I have to go to bed, so I'll tell about it some other time.

I'm sorry this is so late, but I've been really busy.

Goodnight.
